Our Mission and Goals

We campaign and build movement power to bring about the system change needed for a just world where people and nature thrive.

We have 4 organisational goals to advance our mission and vision:

  1. Building movement power - to contribute to building a diverse and inclusive movement strong enough to change the system in a way that supports others’ social justice struggles and that aligns with our values.
  2. Driving policy change - to drive a fair and fast transition to a zero-pollution future.
  3. Cultivating our community - to ensure Friends of the Earth supporters feel they are members of a mutually supportive community and present ways for them to participate in and sustain the work of the organisation for as long as it is required.
  4. Developing our organisation - to ensure Friends of the Earth has the robust governance and effective management systems, and the appropriate financial resources, to maximise our impact and to cultivate a positive working environment.

About the Role

We are seeking a strategic and experienced CEO to lead this change-making organisation at a crucial domestic and international moment for climate, the environment and social justice, a moment when Ireland is not on course to meet its legally binding climate targets.

The Chief Executive provides the management, leadership and strategic direction necessary to achieve the vision and mission of Friends of the Earth Ireland, in line with the organisation’s values and policies adopted by the Board.

This is an exceptional opportunity to have a real impact in this highly respected and effective organisation and to motivate, inspire and build the capacity of Friends of the Earth Ireland to bring about the systems change needed for a just world where people and nature thrive.

You will do this as a strategic and effective advocate, building a diverse and inclusive movement strong enough to bring about system change in a way that supports social justice struggles and that aligns with our values. You will be a convincing and experienced communicator and an effective advocate for policy change that accelerates a fair and fast transition to a zero-pollution future.

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic leader with a track record of success and ideally with established credibility within the environmental and/or social justice sectors, someone who will inspire the team, activists, supporters, allies and donors who collectively enable our vital work. The successful candidate is someone with outstanding strategic vision and organisational leadership skills, as well as a collaborative approach to building alliances and trust, and to delivering transformative work internally and externally.
