UBU funded Youth Worker
(24 hours per week)
Dun Laoghaire Community Training Centre CLG. provides educational and vocational training programmes and support services to early school leavers aged 16-21 years, in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County. The courses are designed to support learners to develop key life and work skills and to achieve relevant certification necessary for progression into employment, further education, or training.
DLCTC wishes to recruit a UBU funded Youth Worker (24 hours per week) to complement the educational programmes being run at Dun Laoghaire Community Training Centre as well as providing youth work support locally. This one year, fixed term contract post will be based in Dun Laoghaire Community Training Centre.
UBU funded programmes aim to provide out of school supports to young people in their local communities to enable them to overcome adverse circumstances and achieve their full potential by improving their personal and social development outcomes.
Key responsibilities:
- To work with identified young people referred to the programme from DLCTC and through outreach and liaison with other youth work in the area
- To enable young people on the programme to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes particularly in the areas of personal effectiveness, character development and community involvement.
- To facilitate a range of interventions including but not exclusively:
- Group work programmes
- Individual programmes where a need is identified
- Special interest programmes
- To work alongside DLCTC to identify needs and to develop programmes to address these needs
- To bring energy and enthusiasm and a desire to work with this target group
- To fulfil the requirements of UBU funding – ie. 16 hours per week direct contact time, the provision of financial, quarterly and annual reports
- Developing contacts and being aware of innovative programmes and interventions to suit target group
- To undertake other duties that may be requested.
- To target young people in the local community through various outreach programmes
- To work as part of a team while also having the energy, drive and enthusiasm to run programmes and other interventions as a lone worker
- To manage a weekly diary of activity
- To meet funding and reporting deadlines
- To act consistently and professionally at all times
- To have a flexible approach to work and to be available to work some evenings and weekends
- To bring vision, energy and innovative ways of working with the target group.
Note re funding:
Funding for this post comes from UBU funding and should this funding be discontinued the post holder’s contract may be terminated.
Essential Requirements:
- A minimum of QQI Level 5 award in Youth work or Higher Certificate or equivalent qualification in related areas
- A minimum of 1 year relevant experience working with young people
- Excellent communication and teamworking skills
- An awareness of the issues impacting on young people locally
Salary: €37,603 (pro rata based on 24 hours per week)
The successful candidate will be appointed subject to receiving the appropriate Garda clearance and satisfactory references. It is desirable that the successful applicant have a clean driving licence and access to a car.
