Position: Detached Youth Worker Finglas

Location: Finglas

Work Schedule: 37.5 hours Tues to Sat (includes working 3 late evenings til 11.30pm, 2 of the evenings are Fri & Sat)

Contract: Permanent

Salary: €34,513 - €49,913 (depending on experience and qualifications)

Reporting to: Youth Service Manager

The Role:

To join the Detached Youth Project within the Finglas youth diversion project team, which focuses on building relationships with young people based on Crosscare’s Youth Work Approach in the Finglas Youth Service area; including identifying areas where young people aged 10 to 24 congregate (with an emphasis on 14–24-year-olds), working in partnership with them to identify their needs and interests and develop/deliver programmes to meet these needs.

General Responsibilities:

  • To develop and maintain positive relationships with young people and provide a service to them at times and locations that work for them, including regular street work services on late evenings and weekends.
  • Provide youth work interventions in the wider FYDP Youth Service catchment area.
  • To develop a deeper understanding of the needs, issues, motivations and opportunities for young people in this target group, incorporating their perspective in that analysis.
  • To establish new programmes and activities as may be required within the area to meet emerging needs using detached methodologies, in line with funding requirements.
  • Develop and maintain community relationships with agencies in the community that are relevant to the target group young people (drug services, education services, youth projects, DCC, an Garda Siochana etc.).
  • To record the work using agreed systems.
  • Keep project records and provide updates and reports as required.
  • To ensure organised programmes fit within the youth work process and Crosscare’s Youth Work Approach
  • To attend and participate at staff meetings and other meetings as requested and work in collaboration with the existing team.
  • To represent the Youth Service, when requested, at various committees and networks.
  • To submit all paperwork for managers, funders etc within the specified time period.
  • To work within the ethos and values of Crosscare.
  • To implement the Crosscare Strategy.
  • To attend training relevant to the work.
  • To manage challenging behaviours and situations.
  • To attend supervision regularly with the line manager.
  • To carry out any other duties assigned by your line manager

Qualification/Skills Required:

  • Third Level Qualification in Youth Work and a minimum of 2 years' experience within this sector.
  • Some experience of detached or outreach work.
  • Full car driving licence.

Other:

  • Have an understanding of the work of Crosscare’s Youth Services.
  • Have an understanding of the National Policy Framework for Youth Work, in particular The Better Outcomes, Brighter Futures Policy Framework and the National Quality Standards Framework (NQSF).
