Oasis House Women’s Refuge is a long-established domestic abuse service based in Waterford City and works throughout the city and county. Oasis provides a service sensitive to the needs of women and women with their children experiencing domestic violence. Oasis House provides a number of services, including crisis accommodation, 24/7 Helpline, Drop-in service, Child & Family Support service, Outreach, Court accompaniment, as well as programmes for women and children.

This role entails relief Refuge / Project Worker cover for the Accommodation, Helpline and Drop-in services.

Oasis House is currently recruiting for dedicated Social Care Workers, who will play a key-role in the delivery of a quality care service for the following position:

Relief Refuge / Project Worker

  • Reporting to: Senior Refuge Worker/Assistant Manager/Manager
  • Location: Waterford City, office-based
  • Closing date: 5pm on Thursday 10th October 2024
  • Hours: Oasis House provides a 24/7 service and therefore the appointee must be flexible with regard to hours of duty, which consists of days/weekends/nights (Waking Nights will also form part of your hours, associated shift premiums).
  • Overview: To provide planned and short notice cover for staff on leave, as the need arises.

Minimum Educational Requirements

Minimum level 7 degree in Applied Social Studies in Social Care or other relevant qualification. The appointee must hold a recognised qualification and have eligibility to register as a Social Care Worker according to CORU registration requirements November 2025.

Knowledge and Skills

  • A clear understanding of the issue of Domestic Abuse and the intersection of domestic violence and family homelessness.
  • Knowledgeable on family law and domestic violence orders, housing and social welfare
  • To treat individuals availing of our service with respect and dignity, working at all times to the values and principles of the organisation.
  • To contribute in a respectful and positive way to the persons wellbeing and development. To be aware of the authentic needs of each person being supported.
  • Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and the non-judgemental nature of our work.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Computer skills including Word, Outlook and internet. Knowledge of CRM systems would be beneficial.
  • Flexibility with regard to working hours.
  • Experience of working or volunteering in a Social Care Setting would be a distinct advantage.
  • A full driving licence is desirable.
