Position Title: Youth Employability Officer

Location: Dundrum Rathdown Youth Service

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri, hours vary depending on availability of young people – 11- 6 generally x 3 days, 1-9pm x 2 days, with flexibility for some early mornings and occasional weekend work

Contract: 3 years – full time 37.5 hrs pw

Salary: 34,513 – 49,913 (depending on experience & qualifications)

The Role: Manager of Crosscare, Dundrum Rathdown Youth Service

Overview of role:

  • This Youth Employability Role aims to support young people aged 16 to 25 years who are out of education/ training/ employment or who are in education but experiencing difficulties.
  • The role will involve identifying, engaging & mentoring young people through the transition phases of their lives; it will support young people to develop the skills they need, through the provision of an individualised response to progress into employment or further education/training and to support them to remain in the course/job.
  • This role has a focus on marginalised and hard to reach young people, including those out of education/training/employment for an extended period of time, those in care, autistic young people, refugees etc.

General Responsibilities:

  • The role involves a multidisciplinary approach that will draw on the pre-existing internal resources of Dundrum Rathdown Youth Service, Dunlaoghaire’s Youth Information Service as well as extended resources and supports within the young person’s community.
  • Liaise and develop links and signposting across the wider DRYS area with key agencies and stakeholders, identify Employment Opportunities, supported pathways and partnerships within the catchment.
  • Build positive relationships with marginalised and hard to reach young people using a youth work approach.
  • Utilise the partnerships with educational services/ EWOs/ Social Workers/IPa centres etc to identify young people out of education, training and employment at an early stage.
  • Life Coaching & Mentoring: use evidence-based techniques to take an individualised young person focused approach and support the young person to resolve identified issues and barriers.
  • Organise short, accredited employability courses for young people, emphasizing soft skills development and liaise with QQI course providers re course spaces / build links with local companies re work experience programme (paid/meaningful) / volunteer opportunities.
  • Outcome Driven post with high emphasis on necessary soft skills development, real jobs, paid work experience and course enrolment.
  • Task orientated role with high level of focused organisational and relationship building skills
  • Use of Measurement Tools: including Skills Summary; Leadership for Life ‘Leadership Styles’ self-assessment, Thomas Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument etc.
  • Implement programmes to develop soft skills and increase social capital in line with funding requirements, ensuring they fit within the youth work process and Crosscare’s Youth Work Approach
  • Carry out outreach/detached work to engage with young people who are not engaging
  • Attend and participate at staff meetings and other meetings as requested
  • Represent the Youth Service, when requested, at various committees
  • Submit all paperwork within the specified time period
  • Source and apply for relevant grants related to ongoing work, in consultation with your line manager
  • Work within the ethos and values of Crosscare
  • Implement the Crosscare Strategy
  • Attend training relevant to the work
  • Manage challenging behaviours and situations as they arise
  • Carry out any other duties assigned by your line manager

Essential Requirements:

  • Third Level Qualification in Youth Work or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years’ experience within this sector.
  • A proven track record to working with 16–24-year-olds.
  • A car & full driver’s licence.

Other:

  • Have an understanding of the work of Crosscare’s Youth Services
  • Have an understanding of the National Policy Framework for Youth Work, in particular The Better Outcomes, Brighter Futures Policy Framework and the National Quality Standards Framework (NQSF)
