White Oaks Centre: Counsellor

Counsellor – full-time (permanent contract)

The Role

To deliver the residential treatment programme for Addiction acting as counsellor/therapist in line with the values of White Oaks. As part of the clinical team, the role encompasses a capacity to work effectively in response to the increasing complexity of service user presentation.

Principal duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assessment of service users
  • Admission and Orientation of service users
  • Case management and treatment planning
  • Individual counselling
  • Group facilitation
  • Support for family members and presentation of material

Education/Qualifications:

(essential)

  • Minimum of Level 8 (NFQ) award in relevant field for work in addiction treatment
  • Accreditation with a recognised body

(desirable)

  • Masters level in addiction/mental health qualifications

Previous Experience:

(essential)

  • 2 years’ experience working in addiction services or equivalent facility
  • Experience in delivering group facilitation and individual counselling
  • Experience in assessment of service users and identification of individual needs

(desirable)

  • Experience working with service users dual-diagnosed with mental health and co-occurring substance misuse challenges
  • Experience of developing and delivering workshops and seminars

Skills/Knowledge:

(essential)

  • Knowledge of therapeutic responses to addiction including the Minnesota Model of treatment
  • Competent communication and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of providing case management and direct clinical care to service users with complex needs including those with mental health issues
  • Proficiency in basic IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power-Point and use of a database
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as using own initiative

  • Knowledge of inter-agency referral pathways for service users

Place of work – primary location is White Oaks Rehabilitation Centre with occasional requirement at Carlin House, Letterkenny

Contract – Permanent Full-Time

Probation – 12 months

Remuneration - €39872 – 49952 depending on level of experience

Annual Leave – 27 days

Clinical Supervision – paid clinical supervision

Learning and Development – support with CPD

Meals – lunch or dinner provided
