Department of Education: Counsellor Therapists
Cpl Healthcare, in collaboration with the Department of Education, is seeking qualified Counsellor Therapists to provide counselling services to children in primary schools. These positions are sessional and available throughout the country.
Counsellors will deliver blocks of eight sessions per referral within the school environment during school hours, contributing to the emotional well-being and development of children.
Available locations: Cavan, Laois, Leitrim, Monaghan, Tipperary, Mayo, and Longford

Work schedule: Day shifts, Weekdays, Flexible
Hourly Rate: €80 - €100 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to the Code of Ethics of your accrediting body.
- Attend professional supervision as part of the programme.
- Ensure consent and referral forms are completed and signed by parents.
- Conduct an initial meeting with parents and school representatives to gather relevant information.
- Facilitate six individual counselling sessions, each lasting one hour, with the referred child.
- Hold a final meeting with parents and school representatives to provide feedback.
- Prepare and issue a summary report outlining interventions and strategies for integration at home and school.
- Complete all accepted referrals, ensuring blocks of sessions are fully delivered.
- Maintain professionalism in all interactions and ensure sessions are conducted within the school premises during school hours.
- Uphold robust data protection standards to safeguard sensitive child information.
- Participate in quality assurance and evaluation processes as required.
Requirements:
- A recognised qualification at Level 7 or higher in a relevant human science, plus an accredited qualification in counselling or psychotherapy.
- This qualification must be recognised by at least one of the following:
- Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI)
- Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP)
- Irish Association for Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP)
- Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP)
- Irish Association for Play Therapy and Psychotherapy (IAPTP)
- Association of Child Art Psychotherapists (ACAP)
- This qualification must be recognised by at least one of the following:
AND
- Two years of relevant supervised experience providing counselling to children,
OR - A professional accredited qualification in child and adolescent counselling with one year of supervised experience providing counselling to children.
Additional Requirements:
- Completion of the Children First e-learning programme.
- Valid professional indemnity insurance.
- Ability to operate as a limited company.
