Migrant Integration Worker
A vacancy has arisen for a Community Engagement Worker (Migrant Community) within SDCP’s thriving Migrant Inclusion Department. This role is full time continuous contract, subject to funding.
The Community Engagement Worker will work as part of the Migrant Inclusion team supporting the wellbeing, empowerment and inclusion of people from migrant backgrounds with a particular focus on International Protection Applicants, Ukrainian Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection and Refugees living in South County Dublin. The successful candidate will work alongside the Migrant Inclusion Team, state and voluntary agencies and members of the community developing and delivering a range of projects, events & community supports using best practice principles of community development.

Duties of the post:
- Develop and deliver a range of community-based projects that support the empowerment and inclusion of the migrant community in South County Dublin with a particular focus on International Protection Applicants, Ukrainian Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection and Refugees both on-site at SDCP’s drop-in centre for migrant groups and within the local community.
- Develop and deliver events and activities such as awareness days, cultural and social events of importance within the communities we serve, making them inclusive and safe places for our communities to exchange and connect.
- Provide support to existing local community groups and, support the formation of new community groups that meet the needs of the community, following the principles of community development best practice.
- Develop a ‘toolkit’ for local services and community groups who wish welcome new communities into their spaces, providing advice and support where needed.
- Connect with and engage groups and individuals who have not previously engaged with SDCP services, with a particular focus on hard-to-reach groups e.g. older people, lone parents, those with limited proficiency in English etc.
- Continuously monitor & evaluate and assess the quality and outcomes of the project, adapting as required.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders including statutory and voluntary agencies, internal SDCP teams and the local community.
- Work closely with the SDCP Migrant Inclusion team to develop and deliver additional projects that fall under the remit of the project team.
- Carry out all administration associated with the role in a timely and efficient manner.
- Provide regular, consistent & comprehensive reporting regarding developments, gaps or blocks.
- To travel regularly throughout the service delivery area of South County Dublin (Tallaght, Clondalkin, Citywest etc.).
- Work in a culturally aware manner and provide culturally appropriate information to enable all groups to access services.
- To maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to SDCP policy and procedure on GDPR and data storage in this regard.
- Other related duties as required by management.
Person Specification
Qualifications:
- A relevant third-level qualification including community development, social sciences, cultural studies etc. or a combination of education and/or experience relevant to the role.
Experience/Knowledge:
- A minimum of two years’ experience in a similar position.
- Experience of working with migrant groups, particularly those within the protection system.
- Workshop development and facilitation skills.
- A strong interest in and knowledge of the issues facing asylum seekers, refugees and migrants in Ireland, particularly those who are at risk of social exclusion, poverty and discrimination.
- A commitment to a human rights-based approaches.
- A commitment to community development-based approaches.
- An understanding and ability to relate to and work with people across cultures and backgrounds.
- Experience of consultation and collaboration with vulnerable groups/migrant groups from a migrant background.
- Experience of designing and delivery of capacity building supports within the community sector.
- Experience of consultation and collaboration with vulnerable groups/groups from a migrant background.
- Experience in project management and delivering projects with a defined timeline and work plan.
Desirable
- Ability to communicate in more than one language preferably French, Arabic, Russian, Ukrainian or other.
- Train the Trainer or other facilitation/education qualification
- Experience of report writing.
Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent ability to engage with our client group with compassion, care and empathy.
- Familiarity with the core humanitarian/SPHERE principles of dignity, respect, non-discrimination and confidentiality.
- Having an inclusive, survivor-centered and trauma-informed approach to social work is a plus.
- Ability to constructively evaluate projects and adapt as required.
- To have a flexible and adaptable work approach.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Excellent written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Exercise good listening and communication skills with sensitivity to cultural communication skills.
- Appreciation of the need for confidentiality and integrity.
- Effectively work as a team member and independently, with a high-level of self-motivation and ability to set and meet goals.
- Proficient in MS packages e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, programme databases, SharePoint portals
- Comfortable working in a busy, dynamic, multi-cultural environment.
- A full driving licence and access to a car for travel throughout the catchment area.

Terms & Conditions
Post: Community Engagement Worker (35 hours per week) continuous contract (funding dependent).
Location: Post requires outreach work with travel required throughout the service delivery area of South County Dublin (Tallaght, Clondalkin, Citywest, Lucan, Saggart etc.).
Reporting to: Migrant Inclusion Manager
Salary: € 34,831.00 - €51,737.00 (inc. two Long Services Increments) depending on experience
