Kerry Volunteer Centre is dedicated to empowering, supporting and advancing Volunteering in Kerry. Established in 2003, Kerry Volunteer Centre is currently recruiting a highly capable and motivated Volunteer Engagement Worker to join its Placement Service Team by the end of January 2025.

Position: Volunteer Engagement Worker

Location: Kerry Volunteer Centre, Tralee

Reports to: Placement Officer

Contract: Fixed Term Contract for 35 hours per week for 24 Months.

Salary: €24,000 - €33,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Purpose of the role is to empower, support and strengthen volunteering in Kerry. The desk-based role is responsible for providing brokerage services for Volunteers and members of the public interested in volunteering. It is a rewarding, purposeful, responsible and busy role.

Day to day the Volunteer Engagement Worker is tasked with responding to volunteers’ queries (in person, phone and email), registering volunteers, and arranging volunteers’ progression to placement with Volunteer Involving Organisations (VIOs). The delivery of follow up on referral supports with the volunteer to review their referral and evaluation of their placement with the VIO is also a key part of the role.

Key Duties & Areas of Responsibility will include:

  • Delivering the in person and online registration of volunteers with Kerry Volunteer Centre with efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Responding to general queries from the public and empowering their understanding of Kerry Volunteer Centre services, in particular the Placement Service and volunteering.
  • Appraising online volunteer registrations and updating the volunteer’s database profile.
  • Administering volunteers’ referral to and placement with Volunteer Involving Organisations (VIOs).
  • Monitoring and supporting volunteers’ progression from referral to placement/active volunteering.
  • Completing with exactness and adeptness a wide range of administrative duties.
  • Ensuring ongoing compliance with GDPR, organisational data protection policy and all operational policies and procedures.
  • Working closely with the Kerry VC team to enhance the services of the centre and meet the targets set out in work plans.
  • Undertaking other duties as may be requested. This may include involvement in the organisation’s strategic planning, QCI processes, marketing and communication events, research, etc.

Essential requirements include:

  • An understanding of Kerry Volunteer Centre services, volunteering in Kerry and the needs and challenges of local not for profit groups.
  • Excellent administration and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple activities in a busy environment while keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Excellent phone manner, communication, influencing and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent IT Skills, specifically CRM database skills.
  • A recognised 3rd Level Qualification in Office Information Systems, Community Work, Social Science, or an equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a relatable, responsible and busy role.

  • Fluency in English (written and verbal).

Special Conditions

  • Full, clean driver’s license, with access to a car.
  • The nature of this post requires the holder to cover the operational times of the service and the centre. This will involve evening and weekend work to facilitate volunteers’ availability, therefore the holder will have a flexible approach to working hours.
  • This post is subject to Garda Vetting.
