Do you live with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus? Are you passionate and committed about supporting your peers with their further education and employment goals? Then we want to hear from you.
Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Ireland (SBHI) is looking for a part-time Peer Mentor to commence a 4 year contract from January 2025 (extension dependent on funding). The role of the Peer Mentor is to provide empathy, support and guidance from the perspective of someone with in-depth knowledge and awareness of the challenges faced by those with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus when navigating the world of further education and employment.
The position is offered on a part-time (17.5 hrs p/week) working on a hybrid basis - in the National Resource Centre, Clondalkin, Dublin 22 and remotely.
We are seeking someone who is driven and has a desire to support What Works for Me participants to achieve their education and employment goals. It would be desirable if the candidate has experience of supporting persons with a disability to access further education, providing training in employment skills, CV and cover letter preparation and excellent presentation skills.
The ideal candidate would have a strong skill set to provide motivational support and guidance to SBHI members whilst making them feel welcome and at ease, enabling them to overcome barriers and build confidence. Other duties include carrying out site visits to ensure accessibility, Disability Awareness session delivery, development of resource material and provision of accurate information for members, actively participate in the development of resources for the SBHI learning hub and support with policy development. You will work as part of our What Works For Me programme delivery team within the Education and Training Department, overseen by the Education and Training Manager and work alongside the Employment Facilitator and Education and Learning Coordinator.
This is a challenging role in a charity setting, demands on your capabilities will be tested and we require someone who thrives on overcoming tough situations with initiative and high levels of self-motivation. You will be fully supported by a hands-on CEO and the Education and Training Manager, as well as the WWFM team and the wider team of your SBHI colleagues who combine to facilitate life-changing work on behalf of everyone affected.
