Your Role as a Project Support Worker

Cork Simon Community currently has vacancies for the role of Project Support Worker. We are seeking compassionate and motivated individuals with a strong interest in supporting adults affected by homelessness. In this rewarding position, you will work alongside a dedicated team of staff, providing support and guidance to residents in emergency accommodation, helping them build the skills needed for independent living. Your work will be guided by Cork Simon values and important models of care such as Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction.

The role of Project Support Worker offers a fantastic opportunity for continued learning and professional development, with ongoing support from your supervisor and line manager. We have the following positions available:

  • Project Support Worker – Evenings
  • Project Support Worker – Days
  • Project Support Worker (Polish Speaker)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and Referrals: Assess immediate needs upon first contact and refer to relevant services where necessary.
  • Health and Safety: Conduct regular health and safety checks and follow all relevant procedures.
  • Daily Living Support: Help residents with personal hygiene, meals, and maintaining clean accommodation.
  • Social Activities: Assist in implementing social activities organized by or with residents and people using the services.
  • Advocacy: Act as an advocate for residents when appropriate, supporting their rights and needs.
  • Building Relationships: Develop relationships based on trust, respect, and active listening, and motivate residents to make positive changes at their own pace.
  • Facilitate and encourage residents to access medical /mental health services, addiction and counselling services

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Experience: Previous experience in a care setting is essential.
  • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Empowerment: Ability to motivate and empower people.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of homelessness, mental health, substance misuse, and related responses.
  • Attention to Detail: Excellent numeric and written skills.
