Position: Social Worker in Mental Health 

Organisation: Offaly Traveller Movement

Location: Tullamore, with outreach to Laois and Longford

Offaly Traveller Movement is a Traveller led community development organisation working to achieve full equality for the Traveller community throughout County Offaly. With a team of 30 staff made up of Travellers and non-Travellers we offer programmes and services in health promotion, mental health, accommodation, youth and education to advance the health and welfare of Travellers and to encourage active participation in society. We provide opportunities for Travellers to develop their skills and knowledge and working in partnership to build the community’s and service providers capacity to meet the needs of and improve outcomes for Travellers.

Purpose of the Role:

• Support Mental Health: Provide targeted mental health support and advocacy for Travellers, addressing unique cultural and social challenges to improve overall well- being.
• Promote Cultural Sensitivity: Enhance awareness and understanding of Traveller culture within mental health services, ensuring culturally competent care.
• Facilitate Access to Services: Assist Traveller individuals and families in navigating and accessing mental health services, reducing barriers to care.
• Empower and Educate: Empower Travellers through education on mental health issues, promoting self-advocacy, and reducing stigma within the community.
• Community Engagement: Engage with the Traveller community to build trust, encourage participation in mental health initiatives, and identify specific needs and concerns.

Nature of the post

• Type: Full-time, 35 hours per week
• Salary: €46,115
• Term: Funded for 1 year, subject to ongoing funding thereafter
