Available Role: Advocacy Project Worker

Contract Type: 1 x Wholetime, Permanent Role. A panel will be formed for other full-time, part-time or specified purpose contracts that may arise (6 months).

Working Hours: 35 hours a week

Location: Based in office at Foley St, Dublin 1 (option of remote working part of the week).

Pay: Starting at €38,300 per year

Who are Inclusion Ireland

Inclusion Ireland is a national rights-based advocacy organisation that works to promote the rights of people with an intellectual disability.

Inclusion Ireland uses the Convention on the Rights of Person with Disabilities (CRPD) as a guide for its work. The CRPD provides the framework to ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and freedoms by all persons with disabilities.

In cooperation with HSE and other government and non-government agencies:

  • Shares the HSE reform programme to people with a disability and their family members.
  • Provides advice and information on disability services.
  • Supports and builds the voice of people with an intellectual disability, parents and family members in policy structures.
  • Provides and supports a broad range of advocacy.
  • Represents its work and knowledge on many HSE and other policy committees.
  • Leads the way towards best-practice service provision and partnership between service providers and people with a disability.
  • Monitors the development of disability legislation and policy.
  • Delivers project-based activity as required.

About the job that we are hiring for

Responsibilities

  • Represent and advocate for people with an intellectual disability.
  • Support people with an intellectual disability to speak up about their needs and have their choices heard.
  • Support self-advocates with share their knowledge and experiences through projects, events and presentations.
  • Represent Inclusion Ireland on committees outside of Inclusion Ireland.
  • Facilitate Inclusion Ireland focus groups and consultations.
  • Contribute to policy formation within Inclusion Ireland
  • Provide advice, guidance and training on advocacy to people with disabilities, families and professionals
  • Support Inclusion Ireland to produce information in accessible formats.
  • Work as part of a team.
  • Any other duties needed.

Professional Qualifications and Qualities

Essential

  • A proven track record in relevant field of work and/or qualification in relevant area such as Communications, Social Sciences, Humanities, Law or Community Development.

Desirable

  • A track record and commitment to human rights and equality.
  • Awareness about advocacy; Human Rights & disability issues.

Qualities

The successful person will be flexible, motivated and positive about helping Inclusion Ireland to achieve its strategic goals. They will be committed to teamwork and will support the work of their colleagues.
