Family Link Worker

for Parenting Plus Family Support Pilot Programme.

Cavan Traveller Movement (CTM) is a Traveller led organization that seeks to promote Traveller’s social, economic, and cultural rights across Cavan County. The work of CTM is underpinned by the principles of community development. We work in solidarity with the settled community to create a safe space for Travellers to come together, share ideas and discuss issues that are impacting on the community. CTM will support the community to take collective actions to address issues of discrimination, health inequality, poor accommodation, lack of employment, educational and training opportunity in solidarity with other groups seeking to address social inequality and promotion of Travellers’ Human Rights.

Details of Initiative

Tulsa, The Child and Family Agency have committed to working together with Traveller communities to implement initiatives to support a cohort of Traveller parents from the Traveller community, to become trained facilitators in Parents Plus Early Years programmes, and to encourage attendance at these Programmes. The aims of the project is to strengthen and develop the pathways to support for parents seeking support regarding their children or families.

The Family link Worker will have key responsibility in the areas of relationship building with the local Traveller community, Tusla PPFS, HSE and relevant local community partners who support parents and families.

The Family link Worker, together with the Traveller organization and PPFS staff will identify parents, support needs and will contribute to the areas of area parenting support through training as facilitator in the parenting plus programme.

The Family link Worker will also engage in national work across the areas; in adapting and developing the established PP programmes to ensure they are culture-proofed and more accessible to the Traveller community.

The successful candidate ideally would have

  • A minimum of 2 years work experience paid or voluntary, in a related field.
  • An understanding of the issues / needs of Travellers
  • An understanding /experience of how to support Traveller Communities in culturally appropriate ways.
  • Experience paid or voluntary, in supporting the Traveller Community.
  • A good knowledge of family support and community development principles
  • A general knowledge of computers and communication technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on own initiative and experience of working as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate an ability to promote an understanding of Traveller Parenting experience within the partner agencies.
  • Experience in facilitating group activities.
  • A full clean driving licence and own transport to be used at work is essential.
  • Experience of working with the Traveller community would be advantage.

A commitment to work from an anti-racist and equality work perspective.

Desirable

  • A third level qualification in a related field, e.g., social care, youth work, community development work etc.

Compensation and location

This is Part time fixed term contract to 31st of July 2025 based 15 hours per week at 1,270 per month and at €15,250 pa. to be split across working days at the candidates and coordinator discretion. The worker will be based out of CTM office in Cavan town.
