Location: Ballymun
Work Schedule: 3 late evenings (2:30 pm – 10:00 pm), 2 days (10:00 am – 5:30 pm).
Contract: Permanent
Salary: €36,025 – €49,913
Reporting to: Manager Fiona O’Shea
The Role:
The Youth Justice Worker will engage with young people referred to the project due to offending, substance use, or antisocial behaviour. Through a structured youth work approach, they will support young people in making positive life choices, re-engaging with education or training, and developing pro-social behaviours. Working closely with Gardaí, local agencies, and families, they will create tailored interventions to meet individual needs. The role also includes facilitating youth work activities, maintaining project records, and contributing to reports and planning. Additionally, the worker will promote pathways to employment and social inclusion, advocate for young people’s rights, and participate in ongoing training and development to enhance project effectiveness.
General Responsibilities
- Identify, engage, and work directly with project participants on issues related to their offending, substance use, and/or antisocial behaviour through a youth work process.
- Process referrals to the project through the Referral Committee.
- Work in partnership with Gardaí and local agencies to develop appropriate responses to participants’ needs.
- Keep project records and provide reports, including drafting the Annual Plan in consultation with Gardaí.
- Attend Project Committee meetings, providing progress updates as required.
- Deliver youth work interventions within the catchment area, in line with the Annual Plan.
- Support young people in accessing employment pathways, including second-chance education and training.
- Participate in approved training and carry out additional duties as required by Crosscare, IYJS, Gardaí, or the project committee to support the project’s development and implementation.
Education Requirements
A third-level qualification in youth work, social care, or a related field.
Experience
- Experience working with high-needs young people who may present with challenging behaviour.
- Experience engaging young people involved in anti-social or criminal behaviour.
- Ability to work both individually and as part of a team.
- Experience delivering tailored youth work interventions that support personal development and pro-social behaviour.
- Experience supporting young people to re-engage with education or sustain their current placement.
Desirable
- Familiarity with restorative practices, motivational interviewing, or trauma-informed approaches.
- Full clean driving licence.
Personal Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with young people, families, and external agencies.
- Capacity to facilitate group and individual interventions to promote resilience and well-being.
- Commitment to supporting young people in developing responsibility and community connections.
