Summary role of Centre and Maintenance role

The Centre and Maintenance worker’s (General Operatives) core role is to maintain and progress the Clay Youth centre, as a building that is fit for purpose, to deliver youth work according to the Clay CLG Strategy.

Person Specification: 

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Reporting to the Project Leader, the Centre and Maintenance worker role will be to carry out the maintenance tasks and essential functions.
  • Undertake caretaking responsibility for the Clay’s Garden and car park and grounds.
  • Undertake routine preventive maintenance and caretaking of the Clay centre.
  • Repair non-functional areas of the centre and work within the boundaries of Clays Health and Safety policy on repairs.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are adhered to within all areas of the centre including routine fire drills.
  • Arrange regular serving of alarms, CCTV, fire extinguishers, heating systems
  • Assist with the ordering of new equipment and centre related materials.
  • Support new developments within the project including supporting the roll out of capital grant developments onsite.
  • Be onsite for external contractors and centre related contracted professionals.
  • Follow up on alarm call outs and act as the Clay key holder.
  • Ensuring that the Clay vehicles are road worthy and serviced to standard for NCT etc
  • Ad-hoc duties as assigned by Project Leader

Additional Tasks

  • As the Clay centre is a Youth Project, on occasion the role of centre and maintenance staff may require creative support with the preparation seasonal programme props for the young people’s youthwork programmes.
  • The role will also include supporting the youthwork process by occasionally driving of the Clay vehicle with the youthwork staff onboard.

Essential skills and qualifications required for the role

  • Min two years’ experience in a construction trade or relevant experience for role
  • Trade qualifications relevant to the role of General Operative- centre and maintenance worker
  • Have a full clean driving licence
  • Health and safety training desirable

Work Schedule:

  • 35 hours per week over 5 days, Monday through Friday- 8-4 but hours can be discussed with successful applicant. Part Time Option may also be considered
  • Garda Vetting will apply to this position.
  • General Operative Scale applies
  • 25 annual holidays.
