Independent Meitheal Chairperson
Responsible to: The Board of Directors of Mohill Family Support Centre CLG. The successful candidate will report to the Project Coordinator.
Location: Mohill Family Support Centre CLG, Canon Donohoe Hall, Mohill, Co. Leitrim, N41 Y2F5.
Contract details: Specific purpose contract May 2025-December 2025 subject to funding.
Hours: 28 hrs per week (4 days)
Hourly Rate: €23.85
Post Specification: The role will encompass the following: (Meitheal Chair Guidelines Tusla 2015)
The overarching role of the Meitheal Chairperson is to assume overall responsibility for the Meitheal Process including the following areas of responsibility:
- To be familiar with the information contained within the Meitheal Strengths and Needs Record form in preparation for the first Meitheal multi-agency meeting.
- To ensure that the Meitheal multi-agency meetings progress from discussion of needs and strengths to the identification of clear outcomes and indicators for the young person/family and to reach agreement on the actions necessary to achieve those outcomes.
- To ensure that the principles of the Meitheal process are honoured in the course of meetings and in follow up actions.
- To indicate that a referral needs to be made to the Tusla Child & Families Social Work service if child protection concerns arise in the course of a Meitheal process and to put the necessary steps in place to ensure this happens.
- To monitor the Meitheal process to ensure it is ‘closed’ at an appropriate time - when the outcomes have been achieved, when a referral has been accepted by Tusla Child and Family Social Work or it has been agreed that there is no longer a reason to continue with the process.
- To ensure that an accurate record of the process and its outcomes is available through completion of the Meitheal Closure and Feedback Form.
A key area of the work programme will be to ensure the fidelity of Meitheal in ensuring Tusla business process is adhered to through:
- Adhere to local internal PPFS guidelines relative to Meitheal.
- Promotion of quality driven service.
- Ensure timely response to service users in accordance with local and national policy and guidelines.
- Support for best outcomes for children and families.
Essential Criteria
- Hold a third level degree qualification in either psychology, social work, psychotherapy, counselling, teaching, early childhood care and education or related field
- Have a broad knowledge of the Meitheal process
- Have 2 years’ experience in chairing meetings
- Experience of multi-disciplinary team working
- Experience in report writing abilities
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience in project planning
- Possess articulate communication style and flexibility
- IT Skills
- Full clean drivers’ licence and use of own car
Desirable Criteria
- A comprehensive knowledge of child development
- Experience of working with families
