National Traveller Youth Training Officer
Full-time (35 hours)
The Irish Traveller Movement (ITM) was founded in 1990 and is a national membership organisation representing Travellers and Traveller organisations across Ireland. ITM works collectively to represent the views of Travellers and Traveller organisations at a national and international level. We develop policies, and innovative ways to bring about change for Travellers in Ireland. One of our core principles is to challenge the racism that Travellers face in Ireland. We work to challenge the inequalities by promoting Traveller participation and leadership locally and nationally, by developing and sharing good practice, developing evidence-based research to inform our work and building strategic alliances with all who are committed to equality and human rights.
ITM is seeking a National Traveller Youth Training Officer to consult with our members, young Travellers and stakeholders underpinned by the principles of community development in the delivery and development of a Traveller Youth Leadership Pilot Programme.
The role is to:
- Work with ITM Members/ Young Travellers to develop a model of good practice of a Traveller Youth Leadership Programme based on the needs of young Travellers.
- Detached outreach and consultation with Traveller organisations and young Travellers in the development and delivery the leadership programme.
- To support the establishment of an advisory committee consisting of key stakeholder for the role out of the Traveller youth leadership programme.
- Evaluate the learning from the leadership programme identifying good practice.
- Work alongside the ITM Traveller Youth Team to support the implementation of the Traveller Youth participation and leadership strategy.
- To carry out other duties and actions as designated by the coordinator of the National Traveller Youth programme from time to time.
Professional Qualifications and Experience
- Community development qualification or three years’ experience working directly within the sector.
Personal Attributes
- Self-motivated, highly capable of working independently and with a strong work ethic.
- Strong empathetic nature, with a genuine passion for Travellers Human rights in Ireland.
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences of diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to problem solve, and find solutions.
- Experience working in a non-profit or membership-based organisation is an advantage.
- Strong facilitation skills
- Good written communications skills, including ability to draft summary and reports
- Good IT skills, including Word, Excel, Internet and PowerPoint.
Desirable Requirements
- A good knowledge of Traveller culture and issues.
- Experience of working with disadvantaged and marginalised groups.
- Experience of CRM databases.
Salary: €36,000 €42.000 commensurate with experience.
Pension: Zurich life matched up to 5% PRSA contribution.

Contract and Work hours: Fixed-term contract until December 31
Full time (35 hours per week).
Start Date: May 2025
