Youth Justice Worker (Full - Time)

T.Y.R.E. Youth Diversion Project: Based in our Centre at Seapoint Tramore, working in Tramore and other Coastal communities, Mid-County Waterford and surrounding areas

Role Summary: 

The aim of the Youth Diversion Projects is to respond to the needs of unattached young people aged 12 to 17 years who are involved in and/or at risk of becoming involved in criminal or anti-social behaviour in the project’s catchment areas. The purpose of YDPs is to assess the needs, risks and strengths of the target group and to engage them in a process of learning and development. This will enable them to critically examine their own offending and support them to make positive lifestyle choices that will protect them from further involvement in criminal, harmful or anti-social behaviours. Funded through the European Social Fund Plus, this post will have a particular focus on delivering work in the context of improving the prospects of sustainable employment by identifying pathways with individual participants towards the labour market, enabling participants to access further and second chance education and training opportunities and promoting acceptance of diversity in the workplace.

Suitable Candidates should:

  • Have a level 7 or higher qualification in Youth & Community Work or its equivalent
  • At least 1 year’s (ideally 2 years’) professional experience of working directly with young people
  • A Full Clean Driver’s Licence and own transport
  • Demonstrate flexibility, motivation and initiative
  • Have excellent interpersonal, organisational, communication and facilitation skills
  • Be a strong team player
  • Be able to engage young people in developmental group work
  • Have the ability to build, lead and develop a volunteer team
  • Be committed to working in partnership with young people, local adults and allied professionals
  • Competent level of skill in report writing and record keeping
