SMC Children Services: Social Care Worker – ACORN ERS
SMC Children Services are recruiting for the following position.
Social Care Worker – ACORN ERS,
Mullingar, Co Westmeath.
The role of the Social Care Worker (Hereafter referred to as SCW) is to work directly with children while contributing to the day-to-day running of the residential centre. The SCW will retain an integral practice role and ensure that the highest quality of care is provided to young people. The role will also require administrative duties as well as responsibilities pertaining to the progression, practice and implementation of Placement Plan objectives for young people, ensuring that they are receiving the agreed quality and quantity of services. The SCW will be accountable for the centre functioning in the absence of the Centre Manager (PIC) and Social Care Leaders (SCL).
Salary: starting at €34,000, with yearly salary scale to €38,000. Also attractive Overtime and Sleepover rates.
Please note that currently anyone registered as a Social Care Worker or who has a Certificate of application to CORU and who DOES NOT have a Level 7 or 8 WILL be considered in the application process. This is due to the Grandparent route currently open to all applying to register as a Social Care Worker with CORU by November 2025 (2 years’ experience in Social Care is still essential).
The following qualifications, experience and knowledge base are required if you have not yet started the process of registering with CORU.

- Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy
- Social Work
- Counselling / Psychotherapy
- Addiction Counselling
- Youth and Community or similar
- Social Science / Social Studies
- Family Support
- Teaching (Not TEFL)
- Nursing Studies
- Disability Studies
- Applied Behavioural Analysis
- BA in Applied Policing or equivalent
- Holder of Higher Certificate in Custodial Care (Irish Prison Service) or equivalent
- Psychology (Level 8)
