Rutland Youth Service (RYS) was founded in April 2023 with funding from UBU Your Place Your Space and The Probation Service. We aim to support young people in North-East Inner-City Dublin by providing youth work and probation programmes. Our mission is to empower young people to navigate adolescence, discover their purpose, and contribute to their community.

Positions available:

Full Time Youth Worker

Contract: Fixed term
Probation Period: 6 Months
Hours: 35 hours per week (including a minimum of two evenings and Saturdays on a rotating schedule)
Salary: Starting at €36,520 (ETB salary scale, commensurate with experience)
Annual Leave: 24 days

Part Time Adventure Youth Worker

Contract: Fixed term
Probation Period: 6 Months
Hours:  17.5 hours per week (including a minimum of two evenings and Saturdays on a rotating schedule)
Salary: Starting at €36,520 Pro Rata (ETB salary scale, commensurate with experience)
Annual Leave: 24 days pro rata

Youth Worker Position Overview

As a Youth Worker, you'll play a pivotal role in empowering young people aged 10-24 in North-East Inner City Dublin. Your responsibilities will include planning, delivering, and facilitating non-formal educational and personal development programmes. You will work closely with the UBU scheme and other stakeholders to support the holistic development of young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Empower young people to achieve their full potential
  • Work with families experiencing significant trauma and complexity
  • Plan and deliver educational and personal development programmes
  • Address issues like drug misuse, early school leaving, and mental health
  • Engage with hard-to-reach young people through outreach and referrals
  • Maintain project records and provide updates as requested
  • Collaborate with other agencies working with young people
  • Advocate on behalf of young people to other service providers

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

  • A professionally endorsed qualification (minimum Level 7) in Youth and Community Work.
    And/or
  • An equivalent professional qualification or relevant degree within Sport, Education, Community, Social Studies, Psychology, or Social Work with two years’ full-time experience working with young people in a youth work setting.

Desirable:

  • A full clean driver’s license.
  • Experience and/or qualification in an active sport.
  • Additional certifications in counselling, mentoring, or coaching.
  • Training in areas such as conflict resolution, mediation and restorative practices.
  • Certifications in first aid and safety.

Adventure Youth Worker Overview

The purpose of this role is to organise and facilitate outdoor learning programmes and provide training to young people as part of the adventure programme in RYS. As an Adventure Youth Worker at Rutland Youth Service (RYS), you will play a pivotal role in empowering young people aged 10-24 within North East Inner City Dublin. Your responsibilities will encompass planning, delivering, and facilitating adventure education programmes. Collaborating closely with the UBU scheme and other stakeholders, you will contribute to the holistic development of young individuals, addressing challenges such as drug and alcohol use, mental health, early school leaving, and more.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement adventure education programmes for young people, through outdoor activities.
  • Plan, deliver, and facilitate non-formal educational programmes with a strong focus on adventure-based learning.
  • Collaborate with the Youth team to tailor adventure activities to the specific needs and interests of young people.
  • Ensure participant safety during adventure activities through thorough risk assessment, supervision, and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Provide training and support to youth workers and volunteers to enhance their participation in adventure activities and assist young people in their learning journey.
  • Engage hard-to-reach youth through targeted outreach and customized adventure experiences.
  • Maintain detailed records of programme planning, implementation, participant progress, and outcomes, with regular updates and reports as needed.
  • Evaluate adventure education programmes using a variety of assessment methods.
  • Support the integration of adventure education into RYS.
  • Adhere to necessary tools and templates for accurate documentation and reporting, ensuring compliance with organizational and funding requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

  • A professional qualification or relevant degree within Adventure Sport, Education, Community, Social Studies with one years’ full-time experience working with young people in a youth work setting
  • Current first aid (Rec 3)
  • Two or more of the following qualifications;
    • Level 2 Kayak Instructor or higher,
    • Any other weater sports Instructor qualification
    • Mountain Training Instructor qualification (Rock climbing or other)
    • Mountain Training walking qualification (lowland leader or other)
    • Cyle Ireland MBLA award or equivalent
    • Cycle Ireland Leader
    • Any other instructorship under the Sport Ireland Adventure Sports Framework

Desirable qualifications:

  • Driving License preferably D1 licence
  • Coaching/trainer experience,
  • A qualification to run courses at NGB Instructor level in any discipline
  • Certifications in first aid and safety.

Garda Vetting: Required for employment

References: Two reference checks required

Travel and Expenses: Paid in accordance with Rutland Youth Service rates

Base: 21 Summerhill Place, Dublin 1, with work at other Dublin 1 venues
