Salary: €32984 p.a.
Duration: 6 months

Introduction

Turas is a not-for-profit community addiction service based in Dundalk, Co. Louth. We work with people from across the North East who struggle with addiction issues.

Through motivational work, harm reduction, one-to-one counselling and group therapy we support clients to deepen their recovery and forge new lives for themselves.

Job Description and criteria

Purpose of the Job:

  • To work with Turas service users who are experiencing problematic substance use to support them to engage with change using brief intervention, motivational, relapse prevention and harm reduction techniques as part of a continuum of care approach
  • To feed into the continuum of care approach by offering education and harm reduction interventions to Turas service users
  • To enhance the inter-agency work already undertaken by Turas with other service providers in the area
  • To enhance service users quality of life by engaging with the co-ordination of care (Care-plans)
  • To offer referral pathways to treatment services internally and externally

Main responsibilities

  • To provide individual and group work interventions within Turas premises and other premises as required by the organisation
  • Provide monitoring reports on a monthly and quarterly basis in line with organisational strategic plan requirements and external funder requirements

Supervision / Administration

  • To engage with line Supervision within Turas
  • To participate in staff meetings and training within Turas
  • To engage with and adhere to all the protocols and procedures within Turas that have been and are being developed to become QuADS compliant, therefore working towards and maintaining best practice standards
  • Keep records and observe professional standards in respect of confidentiality and security of same. (All records will be stored in TURAS in keeping with current Data Protection Legislation)
  • To complete all required recording of interaction with service users on the eCASS system
  • To ensure that service user concerns around service provision are identified and appropriately actioned
  • To engage in constant reflective practice
  • As part of continuing professional development, to engage in training offered with HSE/NERDATF and other community, voluntary and statutory agencies in order to maintain high professional standard

Evaluation / Monitoring / Research

  • To complete all required recording of interaction with service users on the eCASS system including HRBs
  • To contribute to the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the position
  • Contribute to the evaluation of training

General

  • Liaison and development of new initiatives with community, statutory and voluntary agencies, which will increase the health, education, training and employment opportunities of target group
  • To act as a resource to service users
  • Participate at meetings at local, county and regional network level and provide reports as required
  • Co-operate with various evaluation methods which may be introduced to establish client satisfaction with service provision.
  • Co-operate with flexible working.
  • Collaborate with community, voluntary and statutory agencies to assess the extent of the substance misuse problem in the region
  • Participate in initiatives to improve the quality of all aspects of the service

Personnel Specification

Essential Criteria

  • A third level qualification in Social Care, Social Work, Addiction Studies, counselling or equivalent
  • 1 years employed (full time equivalent)experience in an addiction, health and social care or community development field
  • Knowledge of the issues facing substance misusers and appropriate based therapeutic interventions
  • Experience of assessment, key working, interagency working, case management and group work/educational facilitation within addiction settings
  • Successful clearance of the Garda vetting process
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
