Job Summary

Home Instead is Irelands leading Private Home Care Provider. In addition to supporting older adults, we also provide care and support to people with disabilities, including those under 18 years of age in their own homes (domestic setting).

We are seeking applications from energetic and enthusiastic male individuals to join our team who are passionate about intellectual disability and autism.

Job Location – Midleton, East Cork
Positions open – multiple positions with full time and part time opportunities
Salary – 38,951 to 54,989 per annum (pro rata)

What you’ll do

The role of a Social Care Worker is to provide high quality care and support to people with disabilities who avail of our home support service. We support people to reach their full potential and to have a meaningful life.

On a day-to-day basis you shall

  • Support the individual to implement their care and support plan to live well at home and in their community. This may include supporting and encouraging them with personal care, the tasks of daily living, education, hobbies and skills development to achieve their goals.
  • Manage and support the individual to de-escalate any behaviours of concern in a positive and safe manner in line with the person’s care and support plan. Staff will be provided with CPI training as required.
  • Implement care and support plans to support communication, play, exercise and therapies as required. Where necessary, training will be provided.
  • Drive and/or escort the service user and/or via public transport or car as required, to and from social activities, appointments or planned outings.
  • Promote and safeguard the rights of all individuals and be aware and knowledgeable around responsibilities in relation to child protection/adult safeguarding.
  • Assume the role of key worker is required.
  • Maintain service records and ensure that they are up to date and available, including report writing following incidents or events resulting from responsive behaviour.
  • Liaise with team members, families, and other professionals as appropriate. This may involve writing progress reports and attending team meetings as directed by the service manager.
  • Provide direction to Assistant Social Care Workers working with you and the individual.
  • Keep accurate records and report any incidents, accidents and concerns and complaints in line with Company policy.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to all Company policies and procedures, standards, regulations, and codes of practice in so far as is reasonable and practicable.
  • Maintain a code of confidentiality and discretion in all dealings with service users, their families and work colleagues.
  • Adhere to CORU;s Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics.
  • Be able and willing to be flexible in approach to work and be responsive to service needs.
  • Engage in shift work/Flexible 7/7 rota.

Essential Criteria:

  • Level 7/ 8 degree in Social Care Practice / Applied Social Care/ Professional Social Care / Applied Social Studies / Social Care Work or other qualification that deems the candidate eligible for registration with CORU as a Social Care Worker from 1st December 2025.
  • Eligible for registration with CORU.
  • Full Irish Driver’s Licence required
  • Male social care worker who is willing to work with intellectually disabled and autism client.
  • Knowledge of working with children / adults with intellectual disability and/or autism and understanding of positive approaches to supporting behaviours that challenge.

Experience:

  • Relevant experience working with children / adults with intellectual disability / autism and responsive behaviour.
  • Working with people who do not communicate verbally is desirable.

Skills:

  • Positive attitude to work and passionate about supporting people with additional needs.
  • Calm and person centred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and judgement to make critical decisions and recommendations.
  • Capable of working within a fast-paced and flexible team.
  • Good listener and open to learning from others.
  • Excellent organisational skills / self-motivation / self-starter.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and IT skills.
  • Dedicated, reliable and flexible approach to work.
