About Us

The Listen Project offers young people aged 12–21 a safe, one-to-one space to discuss issues, feel heard, and reflect on matters important to them. Through up to nine free counselling sessions, we support youth in identifying solutions to challenges, setting goals, building resilience, and developing coping skills, all while fostering hope for their future.

Guided by collaboration and a commitment to youth mental health, The Listen Project operates in both community and secondary school settings. The project is an interagency initiative overseen by a voluntary steering group, with clinical governance provided by an external consultant.

Role Overview

We are seeking Sessional Child and Adolescent Counsellors to deliver professional counselling services to young people in the D5, D7, D13, D17, and surrounding areas. Counselling sessions will be conducted during mornings and/or evenings in schools, community settings, and online platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, evidence-based, one-to-one counselling to young people.
  • Support youth in recognising their strengths, building resilience, and achieving personal growth.
  • Manage a minimum of three-session blocks per schedule.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • A recognised and accredited Level 7 qualification (QQI) (Minimum in Counselling or Psychotherapy)
    AND
  • Demonstrated experience of work with young people in a professional capacity
    OR
  • Attainment (or pre-attainment) of a recognised and accredited Degree or Post-Graduate qualification in counselling or psychotherapy specialising in Child and Adolescent Therapy.

The ideal candidates will also:

  • Hold full accredited membership with IACP, IAHIP or equivalent.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Children First requirements and up to date training
  • Demonstrate familiarity with GDPR and the IT capability to manage appointments, case notes, databases and submit invoices in a timely, secure and confidential manner.
  • Knowledge and familiarity using online video tools as a means to provide counselling services

Applicants must show proof of accreditation, qualifications and insurance to provide such services. Successful candidates will also be subject to reference checks and Garda Vetting.
