Project Worker (Full time 35 hours)
Maternity Cover Mar 2025 – June 2026
The School Completion Programme (SCP) is a national programme funded by the Dept. of Education under Tusla Education Support Service. We provide a range of evidence based, needs led and outcomes focused interventions for children and young people attending the participating schools. Our service interventions include 1:1 and group support aimed at improving students’ emotional and social competencies, their motivation and engagement for school, learning dispositions and their overall educational experience. In Ballymun, the SCP currently clusters 8 DEIS schools
The Position:
We are looking for a person with a recognised third level qualification in a relevant discipline (i.e., psychology, education, social science or social care, youth work, health allied disciplines). Ability to work in Irish is an advantage for this post. Support and training will be given to the successful candidate to ensure appropriate levels of fluency to work in our Irish medium schools.
This is a full time post that is offered for the duration of Maternity Cover (15 Months) There is currently no public sector pension associated with this post. Salary scale for this post will be as per CDETB SCP Project Worker scale €34,665 - €52,272, starting point will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
As a Project Worker you will work in schools, both primary and post-primary, providing a range of in school, after school, holiday and out of school supports. You will work alongside an experienced School Completion Programme team, principals, school staff and other professionals and have an opportunity to avail of a range of quality training.
Essential:
- A recognised third level qualification In a relevant discipline (i.e., psychology, education, social work, youth work, health allied disciplines). Training in psychological, therapeutic, or health allied practices (e.g., cognitive behavioural therapy, mental health promotion, art therapy, drama therapy, play therapy etc.) will be an advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience of working with vulnerable young people and families
- Experience of working in schools and an understanding of the issues that prevent children and young people from succeeding in school.
- Experience of planning, implementing, and reviewing intervention programmes
- Group facilitation experience
- Experience of providing emotional support to children and/or young people
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices and approaches (e.g., solution focused interaction, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioural therapy approaches, conflict resolution methods, etc.). You will have an opportunity to avail of free training in some of these.
- Understanding of Children First guidelines
- Adaptable, reflective, empathetic individual
- High degree of initiative and flexibility
- A Full Driving License and use of a car

Project Worker Role
Flexibility is a key requirement for any candidate given the nature of the work in SCP Under the guidance & supervision of the SCP Co-ordinator, duties will include;
- Provide direct support to the targeted young people in various interventions and activities.
- Identify the needs of the students and develop appropriate interventions.
- Contribute to the design, implementation and evaluation of structured work with targeted children.
- Build trusting relationships with target students and families.
- Assist in the organisation and delivery of in-school, out of school, after school and holiday time supports for the targeted young people.
- Liaise with all relevant agencies to ensure maximum benefit for the targeted students.
- Assist with evaluations, reviews and future planning of programme elements.
- Comply with Tess Guidelines in relation to report writing/planning and record keeping.
- Undertake additional tasks from time to time as identified by the SCP Co-ordinator.
