Project Worker, Aftercare Service

Location: Dublin

Contract: Full- time, Permanent Contract

(Starting Salary €36,687 - €39,856.49)

The purpose of this role is to work as part of the Aftercare team to provide care and support for young people living in the project as they prepare for independent living. Focus Ireland has developed an ambitious strategy to prevent homelessness before it occurs and to provide effective support and solutions for those who experience it. The South Dublin Aftercare Service was established to support young people leaving care in developing the skills needed to live independently within the community, offering an exciting opportunity to join a newly formed, dynamic team dedicated to making a real difference.

What you will do:

  • Work within the framework of the overall aims and objectives of Focus Ireland.
  • Draw up suitable care plans to prepare and support each resident for independent living.
  • Support young people holistically, paying attention to their practical self-care needs, health, budgeting, and domestic skills. To play a part in promoting and building the confidence and self-esteem of young people leaving care.
  • Advocate on behalf of residents for housing, social work, social welfare, education, training and legal rights.
  • Liaise with and make referrals to relevant outside agencies.
  • Provide individual support and key working to residents of the project.
  • Assist in the facilitation of group work sessions for residents of the project.
  • Work on a rota covering a 7 day rota.
  • Assist in maintaining a good standard of hygiene in the general upkeep of the project.
  • Be vigilant to any Health, Safety and Welfare risks in the workplace and bring any concerns to the attention of your line manager or Health & Safety Representative.
  • Attend House, Team, Divisional and Agency meetings as required.
  • Maintain accurate case records and statistics.
  • Liaise with and inform the Project Leader, on a regular basis, of issues arising from work with individual cases.
  • Engage in supervision sessions on a regular basis with the Project Leader/Assistant Project Leader.
  • Participate in relevant training and development courses and in project evaluation.
  • Implement the existing policies and procedures of the project and of Focus Ireland and adhere to the Standards of Customer service.
  • Assist in the implementation of the settlement policies and strategies of Focus Ireland.
  • Work in close liaison with and co-operate with other Focus Ireland projects.
  • In consultation, undertake other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Project Leader, Section Manager or Divisional Head.

What you will need:

  • Extensive, relevant work experience working with young people in care or marginalised young people.
  • Third Level Qualification at degree level in social care or related field.
  • Experience of key-working clients or individual case-work.
  • Experience of managing challenging behaviour.
  • Good understanding of the issues affecting young people leaving care and in aftercare.
  • Flexibility (desirable).
  • Understanding of Child Protection (desirable).
  • Experience of inter-agency working (desirable).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (desirable).
