About Lakers:

Lakers is a unique organisation based in Bray Co. Wicklow which provides its 340 members - all with an Intellectual Disability - with the opportunity to participate in over 60 different sporting and social activities every week in a strongly, supportive environment. This participation is highly effective in the development of their self-esteem, their social skills, their health & fitness and in that way enables them to actively participate in their communities.
In addition to a small staff, Lakers is fortunate to have a panel of 140 Volunteers who are critical to the delivery of the activities to our members. These Volunteers run classes, support other Coaches and Tutors in running classes and carry out a range of tasks essential to the day-to-day operation of Lakers.

Due to expansion, Lakers now seeks to recruit a Junior Sports and Recreational Instructor.

About the role:

As Junior Sports and Recreational Instructor, you will be responsible for developing and delivering activities to Lakers Junior Members. You will provide, under direction, instruction in a variety of areas including, sports, arts, crafts, social skills, cookery depending on Lakers requirements.

Hours of work: 35 hours per week, covering mostly evenings and weekends.

Rate of Pay: TBD (based on experience)

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Research and develop sports and recreational activities.
  • Planning and delivering weekly activities.
  • Provide support and guidance to members, parents, and guardians.
  • Provide support and guidance to volunteers and work experience students.
  • Maintain a professional, helpful learning environment.
  • Assist in developing curriculum and class calendar.

Knowledge and Experience Required

Essential:

  • Experience with children/young people with an intellectual disability
  • Computer literacy
  • Genuine respect and empathy for diversity and individuality.
  • Flexible, responsible, and mature approach to work.
  • Team player
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Approachable and empathetic manner.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and be proactive.

Advantageous:

  • Training/Tutoring experience
  • Clean Drivers licence
  • Experience with disabilities
