Position Title: Family Link Worker

Location: Tallaght area

Work Schedule: 15 Hours per week

Contract: Part-time

Salary: €39,050 Pro Rata

Reporting to: Manager, Tallaght Travellers Youth Service

The Role:

To build links with the Traveller community and local community services, with the aim of supporting parents to access relevant services where needed. The successful candidate will be trained as a facilitator in Parents Plus Early Years programme, with the aim of supporting parents in either individual or group Parent Plus programmes. Commitment to the provision of a quality service and bringing about better outcomes for members of the Traveller Community.

General Responsibilities:

  • To develop and support strong working relationships with and between the local Traveller parents, Traveller organisations, Tusla Prevention Partnership & Family Support, local community and voluntary organisations
  • To train as a Facilitator in the Parents Plus Early Years programme and deliver programmes
  • The successful candidate will undertake on-the-job training to carry out their duties effectively.
  • To promote the work of the Family Link Worker to Traveller families and local and statutory organisations

Essential Requirements:

  • An understanding of the challenges impacting on the Traveller community and how to support them in culturally appropriate ways.
  • Experience, paid or voluntary, in supporting members of the Traveller Community.
  • A competent literacy skill level.
  • A general knowledge of computers and communication technology.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills.
  • Demonstrate good leadership skills.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative.
  • The management of confidential information appropriately is essential.

Other/Desirable Requirements:

  • Applications will be sought in the first instance from members of the Traveller Community.
  • Experience of working as part of a team.
  • A Level 5 qualification in a related field, e.g. social care, youth work, community development work etc.
  • Previous relevant work experience, in a paid or voluntary capacity.

Personal attributes:

  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage timekeeping and meet deadlines.
