St. Michael’s Preschool and After-school Service: Early Years Practitioner

St. Michael’s Preschool and After-school Service is located in St. Michael’s National School (a designated DEIS school) located in Ballyfermot.

We offer a sessional pre-school service each morning, Mon-Fri for children aged from 2 years 8 months to school going age.

We also offer an after-school service each afternoon for children from Junior Infants - 6th class who attend St. Michael’s National school.

We are at present recruiting for the following position:

Early Years Practitioner (Full Time- Paid term time for 44 weeks per year)

Hours: Mon- Friday 8.30am- 4pm (35 hours)

Responsibilities:

  • To be accountable for the delivery of high quality provision within the pre-school and afterschool service.
  • To assume shared responsibility for raising the quality of early years’ provision, including physical, emotional, social and intellectual education and care for children in the pre-school and after-school groups.
  • Establish and sustain a safe, welcoming, purposeful, imaginative, stimulating and encouraging environment where children feel confident and secure and are able to develop and learn.

Essential Requirements:

  • Minimum Level 6 qualification in Early Childhood Care and Education recognised by the DCYA
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and professional approach to Early Childhood Education and Care.
  • Experience of working with school aged children as well as pre-school aged children.
  • A good working knowledge of Siolta and Aistear.
  • A good knowledge and understanding of child protection and the duties and responsibilities under Children First.
  • An ability to work in partnership with the team.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Experience of dealing with challenging behaviours and special needs.
  • Experience of working with parents as partners.
  • Computer skills- knowledge of word is essential,
  • A child centred approach to working with children.
  • To lead by best practice in the designated area of responsibility linked to childcare legislation and good practice initiatives such as the Child Care Act, 1991, Childcare (Pre-school Services (No 2) (Amendment) Regulations, 2006, Siolta, The National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Aistear, The Framework for Early Learning and the national guidelines on child protection Children First. You will also be required to work according to any initiatives, policies and procedures as set out by the St. Michael’s Pre-school.

Desirable:

  • Training/knowledge of High scope.
  • Current First Aid Qualification
  • An up to date manual handling certificate
  • An up to date Fire training certificate
