About the IEN

The IEN hosts Coalition 2030 on behalf of its membership. The IEN is a network of 38 national environmental non-governmental organisations (eNGOs) that work to protect and enhance the environment and to place environmental issues centre stage in Ireland and internationally. You will work in a small, energetic team to lead and coordinate the activities of the Coalition.

Overview of the Role

Coalition 2030 is an alliance of civil society organisations working to uphold Ireland’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at home in Ireland and internationally by 2030.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals and their underlying targets are the driving force behind the groundbreaking global declaration adopted in 2015: Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In 2015, Ireland, along with all other UN Member States signed up to achieve the 17 SDGs by 2030.

Coalition 2030 is Ireland’s advocacy and engagement coalition for the SDGs. It comprises 75 organisations - international and domestic NGOs as well as environmental groups, universities and Trade Unions. The role of the Coordinator is to facilitate collective civil society actions in relation to the UN SDGs. We advocate for improved integration of the SDGs into all government processes at national and local level so that they are achieved by 2030.

Coalition 2030 engages with the Irish public and Irish decision- makers to increase their awareness of and engagement on the SDGs in support of ensuring that the Irish Government delivers on its commitments. Further information is available at www.coalition2030.ie.

About the role:

This is a dynamic, exciting and varied role, the needs of which will vary day-to-day and week-to-week.

The selected candidate will need to be comfortable in the following areas: advocacy, communications, membership engagement, membership recruitment, event organisation, facilitation, and administration. The candidate will be a self-starter and happy to work autonomously as well as in a team environment.

Qualifications and experience: Essential

• Understanding of Oireachtas structures and political processes
• A clear understanding of, and commitment to, intersectional campaigns for social and global justice
• A third level degree in politics, international development or social justice; or ample experience in social and global justice activism
• Experience organising advocacy campaigns
• Experience with media engagement and delivering communications strategies
• Understanding of human rights and a clear commitment to sustainable development

Qualifications and experience: Desirable

• Experience in facilitation and event organisation
• Experience in the nonprofit sector
• Knowledge of UN processes

Conditions are according to Irish legislation including the legal ability to live and work in Ireland. Hours of work: Full Time (35 working hours per week)

Start date: As soon as possible.

Working arrangements: Your place of work would be the MACRO Centre, 1 Green Street, Dublin 7. You may work remotely but would be expected to work from the office at least one day per month. Attendance at in-person meetings/events is expected.

Travel: The selected candidate will be required to occasionally travel within Ireland and abroad for various political engagements.

Probationary period: 6 months
