Position Vacant:

Family Support Worker 

(part-time; 19 hours) with North Dublin Regional Drug and Alcohol Task Force:

Context: NDRDATF co-ordinates and provides services to people who are concerned about their own substance use, family members who are impacted by another’s substance use and the wider community. Offering support to family members is key to good outcomes for clients, families and the community. NDRDATF is now recruiting a half time Family Support Worker to support the family support programme.

Role: To support the delivery of evidence informed supports for family members and children impacted by hidden harm of some else’s alcohol and /or drug use.

Principal Duties:

  • To provide direct support to family members to reduce stress and strain caused by familial substance use.
  • Identify other services & interventions that may benefit family members to help them recover.
  • To provide information to family members on the range of services both for themselves and their loved ones in the area.
  • Build relationships & work formally with service providers and local community stakeholders to support family members impacted by drug or alcohol use.
  • Deliver evidence based family support interventions directly to family members on a one to one and group basis.
  • Help set up and facilitate family support groups.
  • Record client information using paper & electronic systems.
  • Build a rapport with family members and advocate where appropriate.
  • Support the North Dublin Regional Drug & Alcohol Task Force to respond to strategic priorities for the area.

Essential Criteria:

  • 3rd level qualification in related field.
  • Excellent knowledge of family support interventions such as 5 step, CRAFT and others.
  • Good knowledge of addiction and its impact on family members.
  • Experience of community development.
  • Flexible and innovative approach to work.
  • Positive solution focussed attitude.
  • Good planning, organising and administrative skills.
  • Excellent communication skills & team work.
  • Proven record of working to a client centred non-judgemental ethos.

Desirable:

  • Accreditation in specific approaches (for eg: MI, 5 Step, ).
  • Knowledge of IT based client information systems (for eg: eCAAS).
  • Experience of group facilitation.
  • Experience of delivering training.
