Individual Placement and Support (IPS) Employment Specialist

The Dublin South, Kildare & West Wicklow Community Healthcare in collaboration with Dublin South City Partnership are recruiting an Individual Placement and Support Employment Specialist to support people who use community mental health services find and keep competitive employment that is consistent with their employment goals. The position is for a contract period until 31 December 2025 and will be located in the Inchicore Primary Care Centre.

Job Purpose

This post is fulltime as an Employment Specialist within the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT). The purpose of the job is to provide a recovery focused supported employment service by working with individuals who have experienced mental health problems and wish to gain open competitive employment. The Employment Specialist will work directly with employers to secure employment opportunities and provide ongoing support to both employers and the individual to retain the employment.

As a member of the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) the Employment Specialist will be required to proactively manage a caseload of people who have experienced mental health problems and who are unemployed and/or currently off work. The Employment Specialist is expected to deliver the Individual Placement and Support approach; an evidence based model of vocational rehabilitation for people with mental health problems. Working directly with all relevant stakeholders: the service user, CMHT staff, employers and Occupational Health to enable service users to gain and retain employment.

Education and Skills Required

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a Business/HR/Social Care/Supported Employment related environment.
  • Relevant third level qualification such as a Degree or Diploma in Supported Employment, Social Studies, Adult Guidance or Business related studies such as HRM
  • Trained in the IPS approach (Desirable)
  • Experience of working with and supporting people who have experienced mental health problems (or other unemployed disadvantaged groups) into an in employment within health, social services or the voluntary sector
  • Track record of meeting performance targets for referrals, employer engagement, job starts and sustainment.
  • Experience of partnership working, negotiation and liaison work with other agencies
  • Team orientated and able to take direction and work to company procedures and standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including computer literacy
  • Conscientious and professional with an ability to manage boundaries and to meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post
  • Full Driving License and own transport
