Galway Rape Crisis Centre was established in 1984 and is now the country’s second largest Rape Crisis Centre. GRCC is dedicated to providing a professional, caring and confidential counselling and support service for those in our community affected by sexual abuse and sexual violence. We also work towards ending cultural and societal tolerance of sexual violence through advocacy, prevention and education programmes. G.R.C.C. provides client-centred therapy to adults and young people from 14 years onwards of all genders and gender identities. We offer support to individuals who have experienced any form of sexual violence, including child sexual abuse.

Our clinical support is supplemented by a team of psychological supporters, some of whom are volunteers, who accompany clients to SATU, informal and formal discussions with the Gardai and throughout the court process. An initial training programme is completed, and further training is provided as are various one to one and group support spaces. One of these is group supervision, which is facilitated by the Psychological Team Manager.

We are seeking a clinical supervisor who will facilitate these groups 4 times per year, in between the usual manager-led groups.

Maximum of 13 individuals in each group. Projected months external supervisor required in 2025; March, June, September, November. Monday:

  • Group 1 4.30pm to 6pm
  • Group 2: 6.30pm to 8pm

Sessions will be in person and take place at offices of Galway Rape Crisis Centre.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Facilitate 2 supervision groups for psychological support team members.
  • Liaise with group members and Clinical Director where appropriate re. establishing and maintaining group, boundaries etc.
  • Work with group members in identifying needs and establish and maintain communication with managers in supporting these needs being met.

Professional Requirements

  • Postgraduate qualification in clinical supervision.
  • Full accreditation as a supervisor with IACP, IAHIP or equivalent.
  • Experience providing supervision within an organisation.
  • Experience providing group supervision.
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Desired Competencies and Skills

  • In-depth understanding of impact of sexual violence on individuals and families.
  • Experience working clinically with the impact of sexual violence.
  • Experience working clinically with complex trauma.
  • Trauma-informed and client-centred therapeutic approach.
  • In-depth knowledge of Child Protection, Children’s First Guidelines.
  • Some knowledge of the criminal justice system as it relates to sexual violence.
  • Awareness of the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit and its services.
  • Empathic, and sensitive approach to colleagues and clients.
  • Established system of self-care and professional and personal resilience.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion and equality of opportunity.
  • Garda Vetting required.
