Primary Healthcare Workers – Two Positions
Location: Portlaoise with outreach to Co. Laois
Duration: Fixed term: Post is funded to 31st December 2024 (extension of contract is subject to funding and start date).
Hours of work: 12 hours per week, 3 days, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
Introduction:
Laois Traveller Action Group (LTAG) is a Traveller organisation that represents, promotes, supports, and empowers Travellers. LTAG carries out essential work promoting the health and general welfare of Travellers in Co. Laois. LTAG works to achieve equality, better living conditions, better health for Travellers and the recognition of Traveller culture and ethnicity.
Job Summary:
The Primary Healthcare Worker will have key responsibility in the areas of relationship building with Travellers living in Co. Laois.
- To build relationships with traveller families in Laois.
- To provide health related information and support to Traveller families.
- To contribute to the development of health education materials appropriate to the Traveller community.
- To make links between Traveller families and service providers.
- To promote knowledge and understanding among health authorities about Traveller culture and facilitate dialogue between health service providers and the Traveller community.
- To represent the Laois Travellers PHCP at meetings, seminars, committees and workshops at local, regional and national levels as required.
- To participate in training and education as required, improving and updating skills as a Primary Healthcare Worker.
Person Specification:
- Dependable and flexible
- The ability to work as part of a team and independently
- Full driving licence with access to own transport
- A member of the Travelling community
