We are a new, exciting organisation committed to providing trauma-informed responses to young people living in Children’s Residential Service. We are looking for like-minded professionals to join our team in supporting young people in a therapeutic environment.

Job Description – Social Care Worker

The Social Care Professional, in accordance with our organisation’s values, will be responsible for:

  • Working directly within the care team to ensure the best interests of the young person.
  • Participate in meetings to ensure the child’s voice is heard.
  • Advocate for the young person to ensure their rights are being met.
  • Liaise with various stakeholders and external organisations relating to the young person while adhering to confidentiality.
  • Ability to build rapport with young people, staff and external agencies.
  • Providing information and support to young people by responding to their individual needs as they arise in a calm and responsive manner.
  • Support the young person to develop their independence skills for example, cooking, cleaning, shopping, budgeting, transport, etc.
  • Identify potential risks associated with the young person and discuss with management.
  • Debrief with management following an incident.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures.
  • Excellent communicator both written and verbal and the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to respond to incidents in a trauma informed manner.
  • Excellent ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative.

Essential Criteria

  • Candidates must hold one of the following qualifications
    • Level 8 in Psychology
    • Level 7 or Professional Practice Qualification in Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy
    • Level 7 or Professional Practice Qualification in Counselling / Psychotherapy
    • Level 7 or Professional Practice Qualification in Addiction Counselling
    • Level 7 in Youth and Community or similar
    • Level 7 in Social Science / Social Studies
    • Level 7 in Family Support
    • Professional Qualification in Teaching (Not TEFL)
    • Professional Qualification in Nursing Studies
    • Level 7 in Disability Studies
    • Level 7 in Applied Behavioural Analysis
    • Level 7 in Early Years Care where centre caters for children under 12 years.
    • BA in Applied Policing or equivalent
    • Holder of Higher Certificate in Custodial Care (Irish Prison Service) or equivalent
  • Knowledge of current legislation and procedures e.g. Child Care Act 1991, Children First Act 2015 and National Standards for Childres’s Residential Centres.
  • Eligibility to be registered with CORU
  • Full clean drivers licence.
  • Garda Vetting is a requirement of this post.

Desirable criteria

  • Two years experience in Children’s Residential Centre.
  • Registration with CORU.
  • Knowledge of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention.
