Position Summary
We are seeking a Refugee Family Integration Support Worker to work on our Children & Families project – New Beginnings. The post holder will support reunited refugee families in the months after their arrival in Ireland. Our Children and Families project aims to provide families who have arrived in Ireland through refugee family reunification with supports to build their lives in Ireland and to navigate the complex challenges they face. The project officer will report directly to the Social Work Programme Manager.

Contract Duration 12 months fixed-term contract (subject to probationary period)
Location Cork City
Salary €36,000 - €38,000 (commensurate with experience)
Work Schedule Weekdays 9am - 5:30pm
Key Responsibilities
- Building and maintaining positive relationships with families arriving in Ireland through family reunification.
- Providing orientation and links to community integration, wellbeing and mental health supports.
- Advocating on behalf of families to other service providers and third parties where appropriate including the Department of Social Protection, local authority, education providers and healthcare providers.
- Providing one to one case work support to children and families, including referrals to other agencies/Nasc staff as necessary.
- Supporting the overall wellbeing and social integration of service users.
- Identifying inequities or emerging trends and liaising with the senior management team to identify potential solutions and strategies.
- Building and maintaining constructive working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders including local communities, NGOs, INGOs, civil society bodies and public and government officials.
- Maintaining records and ensuring that data is accurate, maintained confidentially and is compliant with reporting and monitoring requirements.
- Liaising with ensure direct manager to ensure accurate use of budgets and project delivery in line with funding requirements.
- Adhering to Nasc’s Child Protection policy and procedures.
Essential Criteria
Candidates must on or before the closing date have the following mandatory requirements:
- Undergraduate (minimum) or postgraduate degree in social work, youth work or other related discipline with a minimum of a 2.1 honours degree.
- Experience of working with refugees and/or asylum seekers in a voluntary or paid capacity.
- Permission to work in Ireland. Please note that we are not able to sponsor an employment permit for this role.
Knowledge and skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong writing skills (fluency in English is essential. Any additional languages are an advantage)
- Experience in advocating on behalf of service users.
- Experience communicating effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds and dealing empathetically with refugees.
- Experience in maintaining records and a good understanding of data protection and confidentiality requirements.
- Ability to demonstrate innovative, flexible and adaptable work approach
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently.
- Strong time management skills and ability to managing competing deadlines and priorities.
- Strong understanding of child protection.
- Strong understanding of maintaining professional boundaries and practicing self-care.
Desirable Skills/Experience
- 12 months' experience (employment) in a similar role is preferred.
- A full clean driving licence and access to transport.
