About Shannon’s Hopeline

Shannon’s Hopeline was set up in memory of Shannon Kelleher who died from suicide at the age of 13 in 2012. Shannon’s Mum and Aunt set up the charity together. At Shannon’s Hopeline we support and educate young people and their families in the Dublin Area on the importance of looking after their mental health. To prevent suicide and reduce stigma before problems become a crisis. We do this by providing two services.

  1. Low-cost counselling service for young people.
    • Play Therapy ages 4 to 12.
    • Adolescent Therapy ages 13 to 17
    • Young Adults Therapy ages 18 to 25.
  2. Teens Mental Health Wellness Program for ages 13 to 17. Aim is to teach young people the benefits of fitness and nutrition on their mental health.

About the Role

Shannon’s Hopeline are currently seeking a pre-accredited Adolescent Therapist to provide face to face sessions for ages 13 to 25 years.

Main Responsibilities

  • To undertake assessment and therapy with adolescents/young adults in response to referrals via Shannon’s Hopeline.
  • To maintain accurate records.
  • To attend and inform review/progress meetings with parents/guardians.

Essential Attributes

  • Minimum Level 8 degree in counselling and psychotherapy plus be qualified to work with Adolescents.
  • Have a patient, calm and friendly manner.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Sensitivity, understanding and non-judgemental outlook.
  • Public Liability/ Professional Indemnity insurance and IACP or other relevant governing body membership
  • Two references for clinical work from previous placement or equivalent
  • Be flexible with hours.

(This is not a salary-based job, each therapist receives payment for each client they see. It will be €50 per client. €25 paid by the client and €25 paid by Shannon’s Hopeline. No charge for use of Counselling Room. Shannon’s Hopeline is a community based low-cost therapy)
