REPORTING TO: Clinical Director

Galway Rape Crisis Centre was established in 1984 and is now the country’s second largest Rape Crisis Centre. GRCC is dedicated to providing a professional, caring and confidential counselling and support service for those in our community affected by sexual abuse and sexual violence. We also work towards ending cultural and societal tolerance of sexual violence through advocacy, prevention and education programmes. G.R.C.C. provides client-centred therapy to adults and young people from 14 years onwards of all genders and gender identities. We offer support to individuals who have experienced any form of sexual violence, including child sexual abuse.

G.R.C.C. is seeking to hire an art therapist to provide art therapy to young people aged 14 to 18 years as part of our adolescent programme. This is a pilot programme which builds on existing evidence-based clinical interventions for adolescents developed and implemented by G.R.C.C.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Provide art therapy sessions to young people aged between 14 and 18 years old.
  • Consult with clinical team in assessing and engaging referrals.
  • Liaise with parents/ carers/ families where appropriate.
  • Attend monthly individual and group case management and staff meetings onsite.
  • Engage in external supervision.
  • Contribute to assessment and evaluation of art therapy programme.
  • Liaise with multi-disciplinary team in contributing to community development, education and prevention programmes.
  • Maintaining appropriate records in line with G.R.C.C.’s policies and procedures.

Professional Requirements

  • MSc/MA in Art Psychotherapy.
  • Professional accreditation with IACAT or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with sexual violence and/or complex trauma.
  • Have a minimum of two years post qualification experience in clinical practice.
  • In-depth knowledge of Child Protection, Children’s First Guidelines.
  • Experience of providing therapy to adolescents and families.
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Empathic, and sensitive approach to colleagues and clients.
  • Established system of self-care and professional and personal resilience.
  • Ability to work closely as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Garda Vetting required.
