WSTCYS is a community-based youth organisation which places active youth participation, volunteerism and community development at the heart of our ethos

We are looking for motivated people with energy, initiative and a young-person centred approach to join our team in the DAY Youth Justice Project in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford.

Applications are now invited for the posts of;

Youth Justice Worker (Full – Time)

D.A.Y. Youth Diversion Project: Based and working in Dungarvan and a now expanding catchment area in West Waterford

The aim of the Youth Diversion Projects is to respond to the needs of unattached young people aged 12 to 17 years who are involved in and/or at risk of criminal or anti-social behaviour in their catchment areas. The purpose of YDPs is to assess the needs, risks and strengths of the target group, to engage them in a process of learning and development that will enable them to critically examine their own offending and to support them to make positive lifestyle choices that will protect them from involvement in criminal, harmful or socially unacceptable behaviours.

Working closely with other WSTCYS staff on the ground, the Youth Justice Workers will deliver effective youth justice work through a range of individualised interventions and youth work programmes, developing and extending existing responses and increasing the level of participation in the Project of young people, volunteers, the wider community and other stakeholders. This includes building effective working relationships with locally based youth and community groups and relevant statutory services towards realising a holistic “wrap around” response to the needs of children and young people at risk in their specific family and community context. This collaborative approach lies at the heart of the National Youth Justice Strategy.

Early Intervention Worker (Full – Time)

D.A.Y. Youth Diversion Project: Based and working in Dungarvan and a now expanding catchment area in West Waterford

The new Early Intervention Worker will join our team of Youth Justice Workers in the DAY Youth Justice Project with the aim of identifying and engaging children, aged 8 to 11 years, who have been identified as being at risk of becoming involved in crime or anti-social behaviour in the future, on the basis of behaviours and/or family circumstances present at an early age. The purpose of each role is to build supportive relationships with the children involved, developing and delivering a range of age-appropriate interventions (including after hours and some weekend contact), based on an assessment of their needs, risks and strengths.

Ideal candidates for these posts should demonstrate flexibility, motivation and initiative, have excellent interpersonal, organisational, communication and facilitation skills, be strong team players and be committed to creating with others participatory and effective responses to young people’s needs and interests. They must have at least 1 year’s (ideally 2 years’) professional experience of working directly with young people and a recognised qualification in Youth and Community Work or related discipline. Candidates must hold a full clean Drivers Licence and have own transport.

Please forward applications in the form of a C.V. to jobs@wstcys.ie

Closing date for return of Cover Letter and Curriculum Vitae by e-mail is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday 24th July.
