Community Development Coordinator

Blakestown and Mountview Neighbourhood Youth Project (NYP) is a specialised, community-based youth project working with vulnerable 8– 14 year olds and their families. The project provides developmental programmes and supports; nurturing and empowering all who engage to reach their full potential.

The Community Development Coordinator will facilitate community participation to identify local needs and design and implement appropriate responses to support and empower the community to develop and grow. The Community Development Coordinator will coordinate targeted, innovative and evidence based individual, group and family interventions with a strong focus on social inclusion and drugs education prevention.

The successful candidate will have the following essential requirements;

  • Professional Qualifications- Recognised third level qualification to minimum Degree level (Level 8 NFQ) in a relevant discipline e.g. Community development, Social care.
  • Experience-Minimum 5 years’ paid experience in a community development, social care or family based setting
  • Experience of facilitating evidence based programmes within the community e.g. drugs education prevention, parenting programmes etc.
  • Experience of working with community and families experiencing adversity in their lives e.g. addiction etc.
  • Experience of partnership/collaborative working and building relationships across a variety of organisations.
  • Experience in planning and coordinating interventions designed to achieve the best possible outcomes for participants
  • Ability to work in an efficient manner, to lead and motivate others
  • Knowledge, empathy and understanding of social exclusion and its impact on individuals and families in the wider community
  • Experience of data collation, recording, reporting and monitoring
  • Understanding of community development practices and principles, social inclusion, economic and environmental factors impacting on communities, in accordance with the All Ireland Standards for Community Work.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership, facilitation, team and group work skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to plan implement and evaluate programmes based on emerging needs in line with funding requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge & experience of evidence based/informed programmes in the key areas of addiction, drugs, education prevention, family support and parenting.
  • Positive and flexible approach to working collaboratively within teams, committees and working groups.
  • Ability to be proactive, use own initiative and work effectively in a dynamic working environment.
  • Excellent organising and planning skills, standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written communications skills, including report writing and the ability to draft summary information and correspondence.
  • Excellent administration, time management skills
  • Excellent IT skills including Word & Excel, PowerPoint
