Your Role as an Addiction Counsellor
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Addiction Counsellor to join our team. You will be seconded to the Primary Care Drug and Alcohol Services, Cork Kerry Community Healthcare. Based initially at Arbour House, Douglas Road, Cork, you will work as part of the HSE Adult Homeless Integrated Team (AHIT), providing therapeutic interventions to members of the homeless population.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Practice:
- Conduct assessments based on national protocols.
- Deliver individual and group counselling using evidence-based approaches such as person-centred and cognitive-behavioural therapies.
- Manage a diverse caseload under supervision, creating and implementing personalised care plans.
- Collaborate with GPs, multidisciplinary teams, and community organisations to provide holistic support.
- Support for the Homeless Community:
- Work with service users from homeless backgrounds, addressing substance use, trauma, and related issues.
- Provide pre-treatment, stabilisation, and relapse prevention support.
- Facilitate referrals to detoxification and rehabilitation services as needed.
- Professional Development:
- Engage in regular clinical supervision, in-service training, and continuous professional development.
- Participate in developing new community-based initiatives and care models.
- Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records.
- Provide detailed reports and activity data, adhering to ethical standards and HSE policies.
What We’re Looking For
- Qualifications:
- Level 7 or higher degree in Medicine, Nursing, or a relevant Health & Social Care profession (e.g., Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy).
- Accreditation as an Addiction Counsellor with Addiction Counsellors of Ireland (ACI) or equivalent.
- Experience:
- Minimum two years of experience in addiction counselling or substance misuse treatment.
- Experience managing caseloads and providing short-term therapy.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Proficiency in evidence-based therapeutic techniques.
- Strong case management, care planning, and advocacy skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, with a focus on trauma-informed care.
- Additional Requirements:
- Access to transport and flexibility to work unsociable hours when needed.
