Creative Places Tipperary Town
Open Call for Artists in Arts & Health Residency

Closing Date: Sunday 26th January 2025 at 5pm
The interviews will take place the following week, on Wednesday 29th January.

Creative Places Tipperary Town is seeking two socially engaged artists from all disciplines, with facilitation experience and a background in Arts and Health contexts, for a 6-month residency running from February to July 2025. These residencies offer the opportunity for artists to engage with the local community, explore collaborative arts practices, and create new works that respond to the social and cultural context of Tipperary Town.

The selected artists will work closely with the Creative Places Project Team and engage with a diverse range of community members, including adults, young people, and children from across Tipperary Town. This includes those accessing services at organisations such as Three Drives Family Resource Centre, St. Vincent's Hospital, and Youth Work Ireland Tipperary, as well as the wider public living and working in Tipperary Town.

We are looking for artists who are passionate about working with diverse groups and responding creatively to community needs, fostering inclusive, participatory arts experiences.

INTRODUCTION

Tipperary Town is one of nineteen places nationally that has been awarded a Creative Places Award by the Arts Council for either a one-year research project or three-year developmental arts programme.

The project in Tipperary Town began work proper in Autumn 2022 and current funding runs until September 2025.

The project is being led by Youth Work Ireland Tipperary in partnership with a range of other agencies and organisations that makeup Tipperary Town Revitalisation Task Force.

The mission for Creative Places Tipperary Town is to:
Support and develop artists and creative practitioners to collaborate with those who live and work in Tipperary Town to explore identity, bring vibrancy to the place and high-quality arts opportunities to the people.

OPPORTUNITY

These residencies offer artists the opportunity to grow their practice while creating new work with, by, and for the community in Tipperary Town.

Each artist will collaborate closely with one community partner, building meaningful relationships and working together on research and project development. The residency will focus on community engagement, listening to how local voices shape the direction of the work. The aim is to celebrate Tipperary Town—its people, culture, history, landscape, and potential for the future—through active consultation and engagement with individuals of all ages.

Starting in February 2025, this 6-month residency will immerse each artist in a collaborative environment, addressing arts and health-related issues, and creating work that reflects the community’s social, cultural, and political context. The residency is grounded in the belief that artists and communities can use collaborative arts practices to explore and express the issues that matter most.

Residency goals are to:

  • Provide the opportunity for artists to grow and model their collaborative practice.
  • Explore sense of place, belonging and cultural identity with people in Tipperary Town.
  • Encourage active participation in art practices and creative processes. Support positive mental health and improve the wellbeing of participants and staff, through creative engagement.
  • Create new collaborative art works that can be shared with wider audiences in August/September

Artists will receive input and support from the Creative Places Coordinator, Producer, Project Assistant, fellow artists, and partner agency staff throughout the residency.

We welcome applications from artists at various stages of their careers and from diverse backgrounds.

The residency will run from February to the end of July 2025.

Successful candidates are expected to engage in-person with participants at community venues in Tipperary Town, as well as completing remote research, planning, and other desk-based tasks. No studio will be provided, but Creative Places Tipperary Town has a space on Bridge Street available for workshops and meetings.
