The Health Information and Quality Authority is an independent authority established to drive high-quality and safe care for people using our health and social care services in Ireland.

HIQA’s mandate to date extends across a specified range of public, private and voluntary sector services. Reporting to the Minister for Health and engaging with the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth Affairs, HIQA’s role is to develop standards, inspect and review health and social care services and support informed decisions on how services are delivered.

The role:

The role as advertised will involve monitoring public general hospitals, maternity hospitals and rehabilitation and community inpatient hospital services and will expand to private hospitals following commencement of the Patient Safety (Notifiable Incidents and Open Disclosure) Act 2023. It does not incorporate mental health services, residential care services for older persons or people with disabilities or monitoring exposure to ionising radiation. Separate recruitment campaigns are held for inspectors in these areas.

The inspector will work as part of a team to carry out all regulatory activities in accordance with HIQA’s policies, processes and procedures to determine compliance with legislation and national standards, report publicly on findings and respond appropriately when service providers do not meet requirements.

Salary: €71,793 (Engineer Grade II, Point 1)
