The Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed (INOU) is an independent, non-party political organisation that works at local and national levels on issues affecting unemployed people. We are currently recruiting for the position of Head of Policy and Media.

Reporting to the Director, the Head of Policy and Media will play a lead role in formulating and developing INOU policy on unemployment, social welfare and the labour market. The Head of Policy and Media will be a member of the Senior Management Team. The post holder will represent the INOU in social dialogue / partnership structures / other policy forums, and act as the INOU’s media spokesperson.

The key duties and responsibilities of the Head of Policy and Media role are:

  • To play a lead role in developing INOU policy on unemployment, social welfare and the labour market;
  • To research and advise on national welfare to work and labour market policies;
  • To advise and inform the National Executive Committee on all aspects of policy and related developments on unemployment, employment, social welfare and the overall labour market and to work closely with the Officers Board and NEC on policy formulation;
  • To maintain an awareness of income adequacy and quality of life issues in relation to unemployed people;
  • To produce a wide range of policy briefing documents, analysis and reports on unemployment / employment issues;
  • To take a lead in identifying opportunities to undertake INOU Project Work including drafting funding applications and managing relevant projects.
  • To represent the INOU in social dialogue / partnership structures and other policy forums;
  • To represent the INOU at meetings, seminars, committees, etc.;
  • In conjunction with the Director, to devise a media strategy for the organisation and act as media spokesperson for the INOU;
  • To maintain and develop good working relations with the relevant civil society partners, senior decision makers and social affairs correspondents.
