TRAVELLER COMMUNITY HEALTH DEVELOPMENT WORKER

This exciting new position involves leading out on a scoping exercise to establish the need for an independent Monaghan Traveller Primary Healthcare Project in collaboration with the Traveller Community living in County Monaghan.

Duties will include:

  • Carrying out a mapping exercise of the Traveller population in County Monaghan including demographics data and geographical locations of families in line with Data Protection.
  • Carrying out a baseline needs analysis of the Traveller Community using the Social Determinants of Health approach.
  • Carrying out a scoping exercise on all relevant social policy, both national and local to inform the plan and implementation of same.
  • Engaging and developing positive working relationships with the Traveller Community in County Monaghan.
  • Identifying and engaging with key Stakeholders in the county relevant to Travellers, health equality and social inclusion.
  • Establishing whether a need exists for an independent Monaghan Traveller Primary Healthcare Project in keeping with community development principles and practice.
  • Transforming and empowering Travellers Health by designing, organising and supporting delivery of interactive Traveller Adult & Community Health, Education & Wellbeing initiatives.
  • Supporting the work of Monaghan Traveller Movement in progressing the collective interests, needs and human rights of the Travellers in County Monaghan.
  • Providing information and signposting to Travellers to a range of health services.
  • Engaging with mainstream services and statutory agencies (TIG) to promote the inclusion of Travellers in any new or existing health initiatives.

The project is funded by the HSE and based in County Monaghan with Monaghan Integrated Development CLG. Interviews will be competency based and shortlisting will apply on the basis of information provided in your CV / supporting statement.
