Lower Crumlin School Completion Programme is a three school cluster works with young people in primary schools and a secondary school in Dublin 12 who are particularly at risk of early school leaving. We work with students, their families and local community agencies to encourage students to reach their full potential within the education system.

Some of the Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provide targeted and responsive one to one support to persistently & severely absent students.
  • To hold a case load of students to engage in attendance mentoring support.
  • To work in partnership with schools to promote positive school attendance for students who are being supported by the School Completion Programme.
  • Provide direct support to targeted students in and out of school and including during holiday periods.
  • Communicating with and providing support to families of referred students
  • Liaising and collaborating with relevant stakeholders (Schools, Youth Services, Child and Family projects, TESS Education Welfare Service, Social Work) on behalf of young people and their families.
  • Working on a one-to-one basis and in groups with young people both in school and after school.
  • Delivering classroom supports.
  • Planning and delivery of evidence-based and evidence-informed activities.
  • Developing and delivering activity based after-school programmes.
  • School holiday support in one-to-one, small group and larger group settings.
  • Working as part of, and actively contributing to the SCP team.
  • Adhering to the policies of the School Completion Programme.

The Person:

Essential

  • Level 7 or above qualification in the area of Education, Youth Work, Psychology/Counselling, Social Science/Social Care or any other discipline relevant to the role.

Desirable

  • Understanding of school avoidance and have an empathetic trauma informed approach towards working with children and young people.
  • Experience of interagency working and protocols.
  • Experience working with families and young people at risk.
  • Ability to think critically.
  • Ability to work well within and contribute to a team.
  • Knowledge of education system.
  • Ability to develop informed programmes to meet specific needs of marginalised young people.
  • Knowledge of the effects of poverty and social disadvantage upon young people’s education.
  • Experience in delivery of evidence-based programmes.
  • Full, clean driving licence.

Suitable candidates will be positive, motivated, flexible and work well as part of a team. This salary is aligned to the City of Dublin ETB Youth Services Board Youth Worker Salary scale. Starting point will commensurate with previous public sector experience.

Subject to successful Garda Vetting Clearance the post will be a fixed term/specific purpose contracts which are subject to funding and probationary period. This is a part time position of 19 hours week.

Working days to be agreed with the successful candidates and the Lower Crumlin SCP Local Management Committee.
