SMILE (St Munchin’s and Moyross Initiative for Learning and Education) School Completion Programme wishes to appoint a full-time (35 hours) Project Worker.

SMILE SCP is located in the Northside of Limerick city and includes the catchment area of Ballynanty, Kileely, Thomondgate, Moyross and Caherdavin. There are six schools in its cluster comprising of one secondary school and five primary schools, namely: Thomond Community College, Thomond Primary School, Salesian’s Primary School, Corpus Christi Primary School, Mary Queen of Ireland National School and Christ the King National School.

The role of the project worker, under the direction of the Project Coordinator, will be to work with a selected group of young people being supported to remain in school until the leaving certificate or equivalent. The core objectives of School Completion Programme are to improve Attendance, Participation and Retention which will be supported through the delivery of in-school, afterschool, out-of-school and holiday provision.

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Educated to level 7 standard in any of the following disciplines: Education/psychology/ youth work/community development/social sciences or area that supports children & young people at risk
  • A minimum of 3 years’ paid experience of working with children & young people at-risk in a supportive environment
  • A good understanding of the work of School Completion Programme and the causal factors of early school leaving.
  • Experience and strong understanding of child-led support & engagement
  • Proficient at planning, implementing and evaluating programmes
  • Experience of working collaboratively with agencies
  • Proficient IT skills, report writing, data collection
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately to children across the target group age-range
  • An understanding of working in the community & voluntary sector
