How Philanthropy is Shaping an inclusive St Patrick’s Day

Statement by Community Foundation Ireland

Global celebrations of St Patrick’s Day are a reminder of the need for strong communities at a time of uncertainty and challenges, according to Community Foundation Ireland.

Equality, Inclusion, and Adventure are the key themes of this year’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations. The Foundation highlights how each reflects the spirit and impact of philanthropists and donors who collaborate with communities to drive positive change.

An estimated 70 million people worldwide who claim Irish heritage, along with countless others, will come together to celebrate St Patrick’s Day which is an occasion that highlights the power of philanthropy in fostering inclusivity and strengthening global communities.

Denise Charlton, Chief Executive of Community Foundation Ireland adds:

“Coming together with a sense of belonging is now very much central to the St Patrick’s Day Celebrations. As a Foundation we are aware that this is an occasion which has grown so that everyone should feel included and welcome.

We are particularly proud that our partners in the Traveller and Roma communities are being given prominence in the Dublin celebrations. Their participation reflects the power of philanthropy to deliver our mission of Equality For All In Thriving Communities and without this type of support many marginalized communities would continue to face barriers to joining worldwide celebrations.

This mission has been powered by combined grant-making of €140 Million since 2000. The impact of this giving will be evident in many celebrations where minorities will be welcomed as full participants. Such gatherings are hugely important at a time when many feel under threat.

On behalf of Community Foundation Ireland and our 5,000 voluntary, community and charitable partners across the island I am delighted to offer St Patrick’s Day greetings to all in philanthropy who share our mission.”
