Foróige Youth Mentoring – Dublin North: Volunteers
Foróige Youth Mentoring – Dublin North
About us...
Big Brother Big Sister is an internationally recognised youth mentoring programme that forms supportive friendships for young people, inspiring them to brighter futures.
A “Match” refers to the Mentor & Mentee once they have met and agree to keep meeting. Both are brought together based on shared interests, hobbies and personalities. They make decisions together as to what activities they would like to do.
All applicants are carefully screened, receive training and are subject to approval with the programme and are provided with support throughout their match with the young person.
The young people live locally, from a variety of backgrounds, and would benefit from developing a friendship with a caring adult outside of their family. Through this friendship adults can inspire young people to their own positive development.
Who are we looking for?
- Adults aged 18 and over across the Dublin North area who are interested in making a difference in a young person’s life.
- Due to a large number of young male referrals on our programme list at the moment, we especially welcome adult males who have time to share to help make a positive difference.
- A suitable and effective mentor needs to have good communication skills, energy, enthusiasm, motivation, patience, empathy, reliability and most importantly an interest in working with young people.
- Successful adult volunteers are asked to share one to two hours a week with the young person they are matched with. The initial time commitment is for one year.
