Description of Service:
Barnardos Early Intervention and Homemaker Family Support Service in St Mary’s National School in Limerick city
Volunteers would be working as part of a team alongside Barnardos Project Workers, Family Support Workers and Community Employment Participants.
The purpose of the service is to support children’s attendance, participation and engagement in school. This is achieved through the provision of a supportive environment where they can get a nutritious breakfast, while also spending time with peers chatting and playing, or spending some time with support staff who can offer help with homework or a space to discuss any difficulties they may be having and thus supporting a positive transition into the school day.
Volunteers Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Set up dining area with cutlery, crockery etc. in time for children’s breakfast
- Preparing and serving breakfast to children
- Clean and tidy the preparation area after preparation has been completed
- Clear away / wash up the cutlery, crockery etc. after the children have finished their breakfast
Training and Support Plan:
- Volunteers will be provided with an induction to the service and building and guided through tasks
- Training needs will be supported as they arise
- Supervised by Project Coordinator / Project Staff
Time Commitment:
The service runs each school day from 8am to 9am – we can discuss volunteer availability on application.
